Can anyone help me out here? Apparently the 720 model has 60 fps but the 1080 version does not. I am just curious which model everyone is using and which one they recommend.
Thank you in advance.

Do you shoot in 1080p? Do you have a video online anywhere? I was under the impression 60fps was the best for shooting action sports. Can anyone confirm this?
Thank you for your response.

I'm pretty sure the camera comes with 5 different resolution options, including 2 different 1080ps and 2 different 720ps, one of which has that ultra smooth 60fps.
So yeah, almost positive you get both, and more.

Ok. Sorry for being so lazy. Just googled it and it looks like the helmet hero has 1080p and 720p 60 fps. I guess my question is does it look better in 1080p or 720p 60fps?
Is the helmet hero what everyone here is using?

I think most people are using the Helmet Hero. The only difference between the Helmet Hero, Surf Hero, Motorsports Hero and Naked is the accessories that come with the camera. They all come with the HD Hero (that shoots in 1080p and 720p 60fps).
There is also the HD Hero 960, which has a different camera with lower specs. It does shoot 960p, 720p, and Standard Def at 60fps. It is less expensive (about $180), it comes with the same accessories as the Helmet Hero, but there are some downfalls. You can not use the LCD Bacpak or the Battery bakpak accessories with the HD Hero 960.

I got the Surf Hero and a buttload of accessories along with it. I read the descriptions of the other resolutions in the manual and the 720 with 60 fps resolution is the one I primarily use. That being said, the view is crystal clear with smooth slo mo play back. I think I've only tried the 1080 once, but it was a little too tall of a view (vertically).

Buddy of mine has the 960. Don't get that one. I think it sucks. The video it shoots is graining and volume levels are horrible. His does have a little bit of ago on it though. I have a Kodak playsport that I use on a tower mount and it shoots much better quality than his gopro. I'm not knocking gopro in any fashion. I play on picking up a hero once my riding improves enough to justify the cost. My playsport shoots 1080 30fps, 720 30fps and 720 60fps. I shoot on 720 60fps so I can slow the footage down and see what I screwed up.
Sorry for the rambling on. Good luck

The audio on all GoPro's suck if you are using the waterproof case, its just a sacrifice you make for waterproof. The protective non-waterproof case sounds great. Audio to me in watersports is a non-issue anyway because nobody wants to hear a boat and someone elses music and people heckling riders etc.. you always put a song over it anyway. I lost my GoPro at the bottom of the lake this weekend, I knew it didnt float and was going to put a small rope on it and tie to the cleat on the boat, just got lazy...lost an ass load of good footage!

It's the same camera. The different variations just come with different mounts. The only different camera is the 960p which is cheaper and is complete ****.
5 minutes of research would have found you an answer...

Same thing happened to me dude. Except I was mounting it on the back of the boat via suction cup mount, I shook to mount to make sure it was locked tight, it was. Then i turned around to put my board on and heard a plop. Swung around again to see it missing off the boat. I dived in but it was too late and the lake swallowed 380$ of my dignity...
The best part is, GoPro released their new Floaty Backdoor just 4 days after I lost my camera. Oh the irony

the float GoPro makes wont float the camera when its on the suction cup mount.
This is what i wrap around mine when i use the suction cup mount. Works like a champ and has def saved my GoPro multiple times!

id say the actual float is like 6in long then another 3 in chord. its really not that bad when you just wrap it around the mounting base. I mean ill sacrifice looks if it means my $400 investment is safe.

I have a similar lanyard float...not that big. But damn u sure the suction mount was done correctly. Ive had the suction hold steady at 150mph on the bike and it wasnt going anywhere.

Looks like that float strap is a necessity.

I have both and the 960 gopro does not have 60fps, but the HD hero has 60fps in 720p which is what i record in always. Would definately spend the extra money and get the HD Hero
