2008 Malibu Built in Depth Finder Problem

Hello,
I have a 2008 Malibu VLX with the built in depth finder. Sometimes I am driving along and will notice that the depth is reading 0.7 ft. I know this is not possible. I also know that when you depth gets over 100 ft that the unit can have some issues reading the proper depth. Now I know that the depth is not over 100ft because the lake is only about 30ft at the deepest. Also other times the depth gage will read numbers that seem more in line with what I know about the depths in the area 12-20ft. Any ideas? Similar stories?

The depth sounder does not work at speed worth a crap. If you are going 5-10mph it may read correctly, but nothing over that.

The depth finder will pick up weeds and milfoil in the lake. If it's all over the place that would be my guess. Mine is pretty close until about 20 mph.

You will probably have to replace the depth finder unit. I went through two before one worked. I had the same type of problems.

depth finder needs to be reattatched to the hull it is reading air bubbles

Same issue with my 08 LSV. They don't work at speed, and mine picks up tall weeds also. From what I've heard, this is more of an all around depth finder problem which is normal.

Never had an issue with mine on my 08 LSV... works perfect all the time, so i am guessing there is something wrong in your sending unit. I do know they had a different sending unit for 2009+ but the change was needed for MaliView.
