So after reading the thread about running out of gas, something I do at least once a month, it got me thinking, How many gallons of gas do I burn per hour. It appears after paying very close attention to fuel consumption the last two days that I am burning around 8-9 gallons an hour of gas with my X-Star Slammed out (4,200+lbs). My Method to check was really not too scientific. I went riding brought 24 gallons of gas to the lake, ran my boat till it started to sputter, then added all 24 gallons, Right around 3hrs 10mins (hours on the engine) later I was sputtering again. Just wondering if anyone else has any idea how much gas they burn in an hour. I know a lot has to do with the prop I am running and the weight in the boat.

I've been keeping track of my GPH since last year just for fun. It's easy just like mileage in the car. Each time I fill up, I write down the gallons & hour meter on the boat. Put into an Excel worksheet for a little math & walla! In the 70 hours I put on the boat last year I averaged 4.49 GPH. We run the Sanger v210 not that slammed with #400 in the center locker. Worst GPH is when we travel distances at speed. It would be interesting to know others' GPH.

No weight or just center tank + 2-4 people, 3-4 gals/hour. Usual weight 1600lbs + 2-4 people, 5-6 gals/hour. Slammed 1600lbs + 6-10 people, 7-10 gals/hour. Also depends on who is being pulled. Lots of falls = lots of gas.

I wouldn't be suprised if we pushed close to 15gph. I know it's just over 5 gallons for a pull that is somewhere around 25 minutes. It's not good. I'd prefer not to know. We're hoping a re-prop will be better.

I usually ball park it by pulls as well. 5 gallons for your basic 30 min pull sacked out is about right.

15gph? Holy crap. Maybe drop 2k out of your 4k in ballast and you might be able to ride all day without refueling. (Message edited by Pierce Bronkite on June 18, 2009)

Dang, some of you are using some serious fuel! I get ~5 gph when running about 1,000 lbs of ballast and 6 gph without ballast. Wakesurfing, we are only burning about 3 gph running the same 1,000 lbs of ballast.

Hey Andy, have you had any fuel pump failures on your boat? I read on another forum that running your boat (old school X-star) out of gas shortens the life of the fuel pump. In fact, some were saying running your boat out of gas just one time would really shorten the pumps life. 4200lbs in an old school X-star is SLAMMED!

evan, don't you have an L18 with the 14.75 X 15.5 OJ prop? if so, you are probably propped correctly for the L18 Xstar slammed. if, however, you aren't FULLY slammed you might try the 14.75 X 17.5 OJ.

We had a L18 last year. This year we've got a LY6 with a 14.0X14.5 that we're about to change. Pulling out of the hole it takes about 10-15 seconds to settle in. It's bad right now, but that's the price we pay I guess. I'm guestimating a letgit 4k pounds (1/2 of which is lead). The wake is great though. I think we can make it better with a re-prop. There was a point last year when gas was $5/gallon that we guessed it cost $30 everytime you got in the water. On the flipside.... We took out my step dads '08 X2 last night. Stock ballast and 6 guys. I put 10 gallons in it. 3 of the guys took 2 sets, 3 others took 1 set, so 9 sets total. It burned just less than the 10 gallons. I forgot how much fun you can have at 22.5 mph and 70' of rope. I landed almost everything I've got. It was a blast. A totally different experience, but almost equally fun. Kinda brought me back to the roots for a bit. I'll be doing that a bit more this summer for the fun of it.

i had a 14.25 X 14.0 on my 05 xstar with mcx. it was a stump puller and the fuel consumption was around 5 gph with stock ballast, six people and gear. seperately, how are you NOT burning up the fuel pumps running the tank down to sputtering (empty)?

06 Sanger V210 with about 1200lbs ballast plus gear and 3-4 people @23.5 averages a little over 4gph. It's been re-propped as well, but it does depend on who's riding and amount of falls as stated earlier.

We run through about 60 litres in 8-10 hours @ 21mph (no hour meter on our boat so it's hard to tell exactly) so that'd be 15 gallons give or take, 2 gallons(ish) per hour that's not too bad. We don't run a lot of ballast though probably 500 lbs in the bow tank plus gas and people/gear weight and we don't have to go anywhere to ride just drop the boat in and idle out to deeper water, once the motor is up to temp and the ballast is filled we get straight into it. Looking for some more weight this year so we'll see how that goes.

Man do I love the 351w right now. We can be riding for like 3 hours straight and use like 5-10 gallons of gas with probably 800 lbs of ballast and 3 people plus rider. Of course it all changes when you increase the boat's surface area. A 2001's hull length is 18' 9" and at 84" beam it's really narrow.
