Looking at adding this to the ride. http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/237/p/docs/pt/5/product.asp I know it is for a single bank, but will it still work if I have 2 batts wired in parallel? I have and extra spot on my dash for this to fit and I know they make a 2 bank system, but it is a little large. Any ideas out there?

2 batteries wired in parallel is one bank. Xantrex makes really high quality stuff as well. Let me know what it looks like you are going to pay for that. My company sells Xantrex and I can see if you are getting a decent price.

It should work fine, it will see the 2 batteries as one when they are wired in parallel.

Brett, how much are they? I have not checked on price yet. Thanks for the info as to how it will read. Will I have to combine the total AH from both batts (24 Volts) to set it or just leave it as a 12 volt system

When wired in parallel, the volts stay the same, 12V's. You are using 12v batteries, right?

I will have to check on Monday when I can get back into the office. Send me a reminder email if yo dont' hear from me sometime Monday. Mike is correct. 2 12v batteries wired in parallel is still 12v. Instead of thinking about it as 2 seperate batteries think of it as one big one.

David, I'm in Gastonia! I wasn't sure if you might be using a couple of 6V golfcart batteries. (Message edited by chpthril on March 14, 2009)

No, no golf batts. I will be using the gel batts. I know some are better than the others, but price has a lot to play into it. AC Delco makes a few deep cycles. But I am wondering if that is the best way to go or not. What is the minimum AH I should use?

Be careful if you are using gel batteries. They are the best deep cycle battery but they are very voltage sensitive and loke to be charged under 14 volts. Make sure you have some sort of adjustabel regulator. On the other hand AGM batteries can be hammered on a little more and are ok around 14.4 or so. David, check to see if you have a Deka battery dealer in your area. They are very good batteries and they make lead/acid, gel, AGM and 6 volt batteries. They are also very reasonabley priced.

Thanks G - Looking at adding it as soon as I can order it. I love the fact that I can see how much time before cranking and what the system is pulling.

Brett - I have considered AGM batts also. I need something that will take a beating and keep on charging. I will check to see if I have a Deka dealer here in NC.

Brett - Deka only has about 100 different batts to choose from. Give me a model number as to the ones you are using. Also, my closest dealer is 100 miles away. G - What batts model number do you use for your system?

I use West Marine Sea Volt batterys. The ones I have are 92 Amp hr ones. They are all the same AGM's just diffrent size and amp hr's Just figure out what size fits where and then make sure all your battery's are all the same size. I also use the Balmar duo charge battery combiner

How is the Balmar worked in? I will only have 3 batts in the boat. 2 for the stereo and 1 for cranking. The stereo batts will be wired in parallel. 3 amps in the boat. Have 2 batts in there now and a perko. Switch 1 for starting and then go to switch 2 for stereo.

It would go between your starting battery and your stereo bank

Does it take the place of the Perko or what?

It looks like West Marine's batteries are relabelled Deka's. Grant is right. Decide if you want AGM or Gel batteries first. Then decide what size batteries you have room for. They make 4 size options that should work for you. Group 24, 34, 27 and 31 are the sizes you should look at.

I will have to read up on it to get a better idea as to how it will work out. Got a feeling it will work better if I had and HOA.
