Hey Guys

New member here.

Im looking at getting a used boat,

Here are my two options.

MALIBU Sunsetter VLX

1999

$ 20000

or

MASTERCRAFT Maristar
1998
$ 20000

Both have towers, 1 year warranty.

btw, I am in Canada, so take into account the higher prices.

What would be my best bet?
What produces the best wake?
Reliability?
Surfability (hows that for a word!)

Looking forward to your answers.

Thanks

Personally I'd rather have the VLX. I just liked the way the boat drove.

I'd say keep looking though. The tower on that VLX is junk. ProFlight got dropped in like 01 for Titan.... and it wasn't for no reason.

Oh, and welcome to WW!

thats not the proflight tower. they used to use skylon towers before the titan

i would go with the vlx over the maristar any day. maristar was more of an all around family boat so the wake wasnt the greatest. vlx is a way better wake boat

that skylon tower is rickety and squeeky. what is it sitting on? does it have a trailer? if no than thats another 2k+

Sorry Jason. Your right. Thats a Skylon. But I don't think Malibu is using the Skylon for about the same reason. They just weren't very sturdy.

I'd be concerned with how that VLX has been stored, from the website photos its in the middle of a yard with tall grown grass around it, doesn't look like its been moved in over 2 years.

The swim deck looks absolutely wasted as well. I would ask for a test drive, and get it checked out by a mechanic outside of their yard. Needs a lot of TLC that boat!

Not really sure how you got any of that from the picture. It is obviously sitting at a dealer and you can't see the swim deck.

Have no idea what is involved with exchange rates and transport to Canada, but this looks like a much better deal:

That one works out to about 40% higher price than what he's looking at.

AtTheLake - Works outs to be $28k Canadian. $2.2k for shipping. Plus GST on the $28k. Plus trailer inspection and registration.

I've never seen a boat on blocks?!? I hope they have something in between the cinder block and the gelcoat.

Sunsetter adn MariStars are basically the same type of boat. Bu's have the sunsetter line and the wakesetter line, same boat, just different graphics, tower, ballast, etc. MC's have the MariStar line and the X-Series...same boats just with the X-package. granted over the years the hulls have changed and some of both makes had better/worse wakes at different times for wakeboarding, but go with the boat that is in the best condition mechanically and astetically. Looking good adds to resale...and pride of what you purchased. Running well...that just will make it sell or not. :-)

if that sunsetter has the old diamond "ski" hull it wont be much better then the maristar.It will be wash ,just take whichever boats is in best condition,least amount of hours,most options and will be able to service and parts done the cheapest in canada..

the only sunsetter vlx with a diamond hull was the 2001.
