i spent a semester abroad in coogee beach, eastern suburbs of sydney. although i wakeboarded a few times, and even competed in their regional and natioal comps...i'd recomend focusing on surfing. (the comps were cool, lots of guys who now ride in the US --> dean smith, chris o, broome, etc..) sydney uni has a wakeboard club (big thanks to those guys and for amber wing being involved) but it wasn't exactly part of the school and quite a distance away. wakeboarding can be difficult to arrange and requires a lot of traveling. the beaches are pristine, great waves, and often topless. all in all the best 4 mths of my life - definitely go, definitely surf. with that said...the waterways for riding are unbelievalbe. calm, winding, lots of cliffs.
