Which Wetsounds to order this week?

I hope to get some serious answers before Ponte comes in here and wrecks my thread, so here goes.

I have searched for pictures of various speaker setups for my tower, but came up empty handed. So, I cut out some full size templates according the specs no Wetsounds' website and took some pictures this after noon.

My plan is to buy either one pair of Pro80s, Pro60s, or a single Pro485 and an amp to power them. Next year I would like to add another pair to the set. My questions are;

What looks best?
What sounds best when wakeboarding? surfing?
What amp will I need now? later?

Can't comment on which will sound the best but I'm sure they will all sound great.

I've always been partial to one 485 in between a pair of either 60s or 80s for looks. Maybe you could start with the pair on the outside this year, and then add the 485 next season. According to Tim in the other thread, the 60s and 80s sounds better for riding, and the 485 sounds better for surfing and beaching. Hence, a mixture would again be my personal preference. Then again, I am still saving up for mine

Can't go wrong either way. The three some sounds like it would be a good route for ya.

I always thought the 485 was better for boarding etc because its the loudest. Although I only use mine for beaching/partying.

I think the other thread you are referring to is the MB-8's paired with the 60's or 80's sound better for surfing and beaching. As that is what we designed the MB-8 for. Someone who wants a ton of punch for surfing or party system.

The pair of 485's will be the loudest set up for riding with the 3-Some right on in terms of output. With the pair of 485's having a bit more fullness because you have a large magnet compression driver. The 485 pair will also have a bit more dispersion based on the horn shape.

The 3-Some is right on in terms of volume so many go this route because they cannot fit the pair of 485's.

Looks like you can fit the 485 pair. So I would go for the 485 pair. If you can.

If budget is the concern right now. But you think you want to add to it like you mentioned. I would do the single pair of PRO 80's now and add the 485 later to complete the 3-Some.

This would give you the output and allow you to do it in stages.

The SYN-6 is the ultimate amp for the 3-Some. What is really cool is you can use the SYN-6 now to power your in boats and the PRO 80's. And later, you can add a 4 ch for the in boats and re wire the SYN-6 for the 3-Some. So it gives you the ability to expand.

If you look on our site under each amp. There are system recommendations for each amp. So depending on which route you go.

OK, I know what speakers I'm going with, Pro80 & Pro485. Now I need to decide on an amp.

Pro80 - $999
Pro485 - $875
SYN6 - $999

Total - $2873 + tax

I think I'm going to have to do this in stages.

How would a SYN2 do on the 80s now and a second one later to power the 485?

Now - $1558
Later - $1434

Total - $2992

I would pay a little more, but it would be spread out. Would these amps work well? Or would I be better off just to suck it up and do it right?

Sorry to misparaphrase you.

If you did the 3-Some together now. It lists for $1749. There is a discount when purchased as a package set up. (you have the prices as each, so that would only apply for your stages option)

So you would be $2748 for the 3-Some and SYN-6 as a whole. And correct on the second one as stages.

Power wise would work great for either. You would be at 200x2 for the 80's and then 600x1 on the single 485 on the SYN-6 and same power on the 80's with 700x1 on the single 485 for the 2 SYN-2 set up.

Another option would be the 3-Some now with the SYN-4. It would be 125x2 for the 80's with 400x1 on the 485. Not crazy power like the SYN-6 but we have had a lot of people run this amp on this set up and love it. That would put you at $2348. So a bit more now but you probably wouldn't even need to upgrade later. And it would even be more power than what I have seen a lot of people run to them. Many who are blown away by them. I prefer to run a RMS power and more than RMS power but I also realize that sometimes budgets just don't allow.

So think about that and see if that works out for you.

Thanks Tim, leaning toward the 3-Some and SYN4 now. I can always upgrade amps later and use the SYN4 for in boat speakers.

How would a set of the Pro60s mate with a 485?

Works great. Our demo boat has a pair of 485's with a pair of 60's. You can see the pics on our site.

You can also upgrade the clamps on the 60's to match the "trick connect 2" clamps that come with the 485's. So all will have the quick disconnect clamps.

SYN-4 would work great for that set up as well. We call it the "60 3-Some"

Is there a part number that my dealer can order from? Any package discount on that like the 3-some?

Have your dealer call and talk with Justin at my office. Tell him a 60 3-Some with the new trick connect 2 clamps and he can get him set up.

we have always offered a "trick connect" upgrade kit for the PRO 60's and MB-8's. So you can upgrade the clamps that come with the 60's and MB-8's to the quick release clamps. we have changed to a new design we call the "trick connect 2"

This clamp is now all stainless steel and is still removable but also offers a built in swivel.

So the PRO 80 and PRO 485 ship with this clamp now. The 60's and MB-8 have a new clamp too. It is the same style fixed clamp but will be shipping in stainless as well.

So pretty much you can get any speaker with any clamp if you want. You can get the fixed clamps on the 80's and 485's if you really wanted to!

We are flexible.

Lighting was horrible for the pic, but got them installed today.



Several people had emailed me asking for some measurements. I have 78" from the floor to bottom of the tower, and now 68" from the floor to the bottom of the 485.
