My buddy, for a xmas present from his mother-in-law can choose any setup he wants, at any price. That being said, what should he go with? He is previous board was the 07 Byerly setup which he didnt care for much. I'm guessing he's looking for a toned down byerly, same speed and pop, yet easy to ride. He rides pretty agressive, always looking to go big. Bottom line, if you could have ANY setup, what would you go with???

I like a 2003 Byerly 132-137 (depending on size) with 2008 Watson bindings...

Speed and pop of a CWB Transcend is pretty close to an older byerly, yet more controllable. Landings should be a little better. I'd demo the new one if I was in the market for a board.}

My current favorite setup is the OBrien Natural/Player (very hard to choose between) with Xenon Bindings. Though I haven't gotten the chance to try it out yet, my potentially new favorite might be the '09 Decade with '09 Decade/Vice bindings (can't wait to try them on!).

Depending on how much he likes his mother in law, buy the most expensive setup he can, and then swap it out for what he likes and pocket the extra dollars.

Ronix Viva with the Bindings of your choice. Ronix Cells if you want stiffness, Ronix One's in between, or the Reliks if you want a softer flex.

the newer byerly both the Assault and the Monarch are supposed to be pretty "toned down" there is a more "hybrid-type" rocker... or less of an abrupt 3-stage rocker, used on both models. Both models have a bit of "flex" in them too, so i'd check those. and from a more strictly personal opinion i would strongly recommend trying a flexboard such as slingshot, maybe the Reflex would be a good choice based on the given thoughts from your buddy --------------------------------------------------- *******As for boots, tell us what kind of boot style your friend likes, Closed toe? softer flex for easier grabs and pokes? stiffer binding for more leverage and control/speed? is softness of footbed most important or ease/speed of entry, or what? etc? then we can help better on boots. for now all you are gona get is strictly PERSONAL opinions on boots that may or may not be best... or rather, i mean, all you have so far are a list of boots we think are great, to us, with no recollection of what your bud likes. don't "buy the most expensive and sell it"... good, sly/smart, idea... but that is most likely not gona prove good relations (with the mother-in-law) in the long run. i realize this might have been just a joke, but just in case i got to put my foot down on it anyway ;) ------------------- although, the monarch IS one of THE most expensive and i guess if HONESTLY found to be disliked... ya go ahead and sell it.
