The thread called "what trick is this" got me thinking about how amazing orbitals are and why no one else beside The Scud (Darin Shapiro) are doing them. Beside the fact the trick looks like it takes an amazing amount of strength and god given natural wakeboard ability, why do we not see more people doing them. They look sick, stylish, and super clean, typically people are all about tricks like that, that scream style and control, except the Orbital. Anybody know of any other riders doing orbitals? Just in case you have no Idea what I am talking about (and honestly I hope every one knows what an Orbital is) An Orbital is a Backside 540 or a 720 where the rider goes over the top of the rope for the first 360 instead of passing the handle, Shapiro does one in this video at the 2:50 mark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frgtLnAJofY Here is the video I am talking about. Toss up some video if you know of any one else doing them I would love to see it! Next summer might have to be the summer of trying to learn Orbitals in Minnesota.

Bring it back! IMO #1 they're difficult. #2 Unfortunately, I don't think most folks know they exist... Obviously WW'ers are a more astute crowd, so this should get interesting!

Jake -I was hoping the same thing- A lot of people are going doing BS OA 540, but not like the Orbital, those are more like Handle Pass tantrums, I know that's what mine look like.

Lets see, how do i train for this......besides learning BS3s and 5s. ;) Go to the gym and put the cable pulley down on the bottom notch. Squat on a bench and try to pull the cable out behind your body, below the bench level.......with a 100lbs on the cable. I've always thought it looked like the hardest strength move at the end of a rope.

What about his crazy HS BS O/A 5's?? You don't see many people doing that trick. I know Parks could do them (did a ton of the DU in Shafted) but he was doing them w2w.

Check out DRIVE!! I'm almost 99% positive Gabe Lucas does one off the double up. It was insane! But with all the other hammers in that movie, i think it gets overlooked. it was insane!!

BEN, I think that is Gabe's Front Mobe. He throws it on a really weird axis. Its not over the top like most people.

Orbitals are awesome! I think it didnt get much love because trick skiiers do tricks over the rope. Darin was rockin these during the days wakeboarding was trying to separate itself from all things uniquely ski related.

I don't know I don't think i would really call it a style trick. True there is off axis board position and strength involved. I forget (and no utube at work) can he grab them at all? I admit it is an impressive trick, but stylish? For some reason it reminds me of the guys who can do a 360 while tossing the handle up and catching it again (no pass). While I admit they are not on the same level I guess I think they are both novelty tricks like many of wakeboardings other tricks fallen to the wayside.

i would imagine an osmosis would be a little tricky to grab while looking for the handle on the first 540... stylish... i'm sure he'll figure out a way to throw a grab in there to make it more "stylish" when someone else does one... not saying the big guys couldn't or won't by any means... i'm just saying they haven't... pretty cool to be the only one to do something cool imo

SOB has a sweet OA Osmosis 5 that is grabbed all the way through the rotation. It was the first wakeworld vid I saw of him from a years back. I'll try to find the link.

That is the biggest orbital I've see him do. He usually grabs them the whole way through, check out Switch 22 and Shaft WakeMikey for some good versions of the trick. I usually think short riders don't show much style, but Darin has more style than every sub 5'7" rider combined. He's the man!!!

Found the link of SOB's grabbed Osmosis. http://www.wakeworld.com/Galleries/GetImage.asp?GalleryID=178&ImageID=29 I have pretty much liked SOB ever since I first saw this footage. On the 009, I think that trick is amazing. Grabbed or not, that trick is a hammer. This is my favorite Shapiro video of late. http://wakeboardingmag.com/article/Features/Video-Darin-Shapiro-1000063658
