Getting ready to do a simple stereo install on the X1 and I’ve been only looking at Marine head units. The stereo will be located in the glove box and there’s not much rain out here in southern CA so should I also be considering car audio head units? I want to try and do this without an external amp and adding a second battery. With my small boat it would seem I can have descent sound from a high quality receiver that has a built in amp. Am I dreaming?

Use regular car audio. Definately amp it as a stereo in a boat sounds totally different due to being open air and all the external noise. Sounds cheesy without it.

All car audio for me without any problems nor do I ever for see them. Definetly spring for an amp and with just one you won't need an extra battery unless you sit and listen to music for hours at a time.

If you were going to use a external amp would you still need to spend the 200-225$ for a head unit with the higher output built-in amp?

Just find a HU you like and don't worry about the internal amp for me their virtually useless.
