My cousin is picking up his 05' VLX that he just bought. Is there some good riding/camping spots around the Reno area?

For sure -Tahoe (balls cold) -Truckee (balls cold) -Eagle Lake (cold) -Boca/Stampede (kinda cold) -Pyramid (kinda salty) -Topaz (slightly cold/rocky) -Lahontan (descent but low) Take your pick. Have fun.

I would think Boca/Stampede would have best water conditions all around. Get out early wherever you go. Is Topaz really considered near Reno??? It's at least a 2 hour drive pulling boat....

I agree with deltagrubber, Boca is probably your best bet. Even though Stampede is close to Boca, they are completely different. Unless your riding stampede @ 5am or 6pm, its choppy. So I would say try Boca. Topaz is a little less than an hour away from Carson, so I would say its about an hour and a half away from Reno.

I was at Topaz last weekend the water temp was inthe low 70's. Boca is your best bet that is close plus it is full. JJ we missed you on Sunday

Boca is super busy on the weekends right now. If you're going to be up during the week it'll be good in the mornings, same with Stampede. Just watch out for a group of guys in a Teale SS Nautique or Grey/White SAN, they're a bunch of jerks... (Message edited by sperbet on July 23, 2008)

Scott, if you go out during the week let me know if you need a third, fourth, etc, the work load around Reno is slowing down again and I am having more time off during the week. I would stick with Boca myself, but you have to Shoreline launch, which is pretty easy.

Tim, shoot me an email with your phone #. I think I might head out once or twice next week in the morning. It's usually tough to find thirds for mid-week morning sessions.

Also watch for a swarthy gentleman with a goatee and, usually, budweiser in hand...homeboy's crazy. Heard he beat up some guy for doing powerturns and will readily charge the shore to pursue ornery fisherman.

Hey, I resemble Scott's remark. Though I'm only a jerk to powerturners, wakesurfers, wallies, fishermen, tubers, jet skiers, campers, jet boaters, ski cove nazis and pleasure boaters, they seem to make up about 95% of Boca's visitors. So, guilty as charged I guess. At least I don't beat people up...

Sounds like Boca is the spot. My cousin is going to love shoreline launching in his brand new boat in an unfamiliar lake. Is there camping there?
