What is everyone riding at behind X1/X2/Xstar? I came from a 88 SN 2001 so I was riding a long line about 80ft at 25 to 26mph. I haven't found the sweet spot yet for the X1. This weekend I was riding without ballast at 24 and about 60ft.

What is your length and speed both with and without ballast.

without ballast ill ride about 22 and 70. With about 1500 lbs I ride 23ish at 75. Sometimes a little faster with a bunch of people to get it to clean up...

Depends on how you have it weighted. I rode my 05 X2 at 80 feet at a true 24.5 mph. If we had a lot of heads in the boat, sometimes we would have to move weight forward to prevent the wake from curling over at 80 feet. We ran about 2800 pounds.

You definitely won't find a sweet spot with no ballast at 24. That sounds very flat.

I think I got used to riding too fast with the old Nautique. I have been trying to bring the speed down slower every few times I go out. Oh... and by no ballast I mean, just the two rear factory tanks.

Load that baby down Midwest.

The sweet spot is between 75 - 80 feet back.

never riddin behind one sans ballast, so I don't know if this is any help but, in my buddies older x-star we put stock ballast and about 600 in lead all behind the winsheild distributed evenly and another 440 in the nose. I ride at about 24 to 24.5 at 85ft. If we are running that much weight plus 6 people and you are running with no ballast and a 5 ft. shorter rope then you should definatly not be riding the same speed as me. I would say to keep slowing the boat down from where you are at keeping the line at the same length until the wake is washing out about 2 feet to 3 feet from where you are hitting it. I am gonna say with no ballast though you should probably shorten the rope to 70 and try around 21. That way the wake will stand up some. At the speed you were at with no ballast the wake will be pretty small.

23-24 and 75ft, 400 up front, 400 in the locker, 400 on each side of the engine.

We usually ride 80' @ 24-24.5 with around 2-2500 #s.

26-27 mph at 85'. 750 each side of the engine, 620 pound bag behind driver, 120 in lead under the port side bench seat (or somewhere else if i have enough people), 300 in ski locker, 1400 up front.

Jay,
Wow, that's a ton of weight! Actually...2 tons! 3940 in ballast plus people! That wake must be sick!

I ride almost the same set up as Jay. I ride 85-87 at 27mph with 4000+ balast and crew, I think I only beat him by 1 sac and more lead!

4000+ in an X1??? Is that possible? wow, my knees hurt just thinking about that...

I ride my buddy's with an 85 ft line, not sure exactly how much weight, but I do know he has about 400lbs in lead, plus factory, plus a big bag on each side of the engine. His PP isn't GPS'd either but if I had to guess actual speed I'd say 24-25ish. IMO even at 85 feet the wake is big, but narrow.

andy/jay what props are you guys running?

4,000 does seam like a lot of weight. I want to replace the rear stock tanks with my 400lb sacks, and then get a v shaped sack for under the front cushions and then a sack for the ski locker. That would leave me with my old 600lb bag for the floor.

From these post it looks like 24mph is the right speed once weighted. Otherwise I am going to need to play around with line and speed when lightly weighted.

2500 lbs at 25 mph with a line length of 80 ft. The x1 likes the weight roughly 50/50 front/back or at least close to that.

I like to ride no weight 60-65 feet 21 to 22 MPH the wake-to-wake stuff is good and easy with that set up. It is a good place to get the fundamentals down. 180S, grabs and a backroll

I questioned Andy's setup initially too, but he's a stand-up guy. If I'm not mistaken your boat is a direct drive isn't it andy? Maybe that's the difference.

I got up to about 3500 in mine once, and it tried to submarine (nose under water) when I let off the gas. We had to stay on plane while we moved people and drained ballast just to stop the boat. Scary.

andy's in a v-drive...2001 XStar. andy does have me beat by 1 sac! however, i actually just picked up some more sac plugs/caps. now i can throw other 620 pounder that i have in the middle of the boat to bump the total ballast up to close to 4500...haven't done it yet this year, so i can't claim that i do (soon though, very soon...just gotta let this sprained mcl heal).

jr - i run the Acme 1235 prop...does a super nice job. not sure what andy runs?

j-rod - i've dipped the nose a few times, but have quickly learned that you need to take an extra few seconds to gradually slow down. tossing the boat in reverse as soon as the nose gets close to the water seems to do the trick with keeping the water out.

I am running about 1700 lbs. That is plenty for me. Runing about 22.5-23.5mph (GPS'd)on 75ft line. Even 70ft gives you nice solid kick. I think 80 at my setup is where youy start to loose the pop. I am running the Acme 1235 as well. The best prop hands down for the X1/205V Hull

I runn 450-500 on each side of the engine. 375 in Center locker and 350 in the nose and about 3 peeps in the boat. PErfect for my advanced/intermedite self. I think anything more on my end would intimadte the %^&* out of me trying new stuff, but I have been in an X1 with 14 people and full factory KGB and about 500 more in sacs. Thing was retarded..........Took some time to plane so you only git 2 falls :-)

Most of the outlaw riders that I have been with that have the X1 dialed run 600plus in the rear on each side Center locker full and another 600lbs on the floor in the walkway not all the way up to the nose, but more next to the driver's seat(if that makes sense). If I recall that is how they used to set up the tour boat back when it was the 205v/X-star hull. IT's nice and meaty for sure

This is a late follow up, but I finally got my pumps working and had a great wake last night.
Filled the center locker so probably 300Lbs, about 300lbs in the nose walkway, another 400lb bag in the center/rear of the boat and the 250lb hard tanks in the rear. So 1,500lbs total with 3 people in the boat.

Line was at 70ft with 24.5 mph and the pop felt good. I think I need a little more weight in the back, but it is good for now.

Longer rope, sucka..... Ha, ha, ha. 70' is just too short for that boat.

We used to ride 80 when we had X2's, but now that I'm used to riding behind the new X-stars I've been riding 85 behind those boats.

That wake gets really mackin' upwards of 2500 pounds.
