I just finished replacing the old tower speakers on my boat with some new Wetsounds Pro 80s (which sound awesome). Unfortunately they overpower the 8" JL Audio sub that came with my boat and I need to replace it. I have another 150W RMS amp to use and was looking for a recommendation for a 10" sub. Another thing, I already bought the Pro 80s, new racks, a tower light, new trailer tires, and new sacs this season, so my accessory budget is reaching its max.

guidelines are:

- under $150
- will be in sealed box
- need minimized box volume required
- powered by 150W rms amp
- prefer to run in 4ohms since amp is bridged and to minimize heat

I know this sub won't win any contests, but I am basically looking for the best I can do with these guidelines in mind. Thanks for any help!

Get the JL 10W3, the kicker L5 will be severely underpowered, especially in a small sealed box.

i agree with gray. i got a shallow mount sony 10" works great for my boat and hits hard. but i found small boxes that fit the best, which is why i got a shallow mount. plus they need less cubic inches of space. i think my sub was about or less then $80 plus a $20-30 box and your under budget!

Boston G1-10 Sounds great, plays loud with small power and is optimal in s small enclosure... .5 cubic feet sealed. It is really efficient and comes in a single and dual voice coil config to match your amp. Can be had for about $100.00 (Retail of $109.00)

If your trying to match up a sub to the pro 80's and are only going to send it 150watts , you r going to be dissapointed. Put 400-500 watts to it, or just keep the 8 and run 150 to it.

Thanks for the pointers so far.

JL Audio 10W3 - efficiency is 84.87dB - am I going to take a hit using only 150W?

Boston G1-10 - I've never heard a Boston woofer - any more feedback here?

Anyone know anything about Polk Momo MM2104? It looks pretty efficient.

I'll look more into Sonicelectronix - looks like good prices.

Also, I am definitely not trying to compete with the Pro 80's at full volume. I am looking more at a sub to use with them at 1/4-1/2 volume while sitting around the boat between sets.

Here are a few of my recommendations:

MTX TR45 Single Voice Coil
Kicker CVR Dual Voice Coil
Alpine Type S Dual Voice Coil

I would probably run with the MTX 1) Price is 70 (sonicelectronix.com) 2)Recommend power is 100-200 RMS. I recommend the single voice coil with this one, because it is only offered as a 4ohm sub. When you wire a dual voice coil 4 ohm sub in parrelle it will be a 2 ohm sub. When you wire it in series it is an 8 ohm sub.

If you decided to go like with the CVR or Type S get a 2 ohm sub, wire in in series so that it will be 4 ohm stable.

Boston G1 or JL 10w1v2. Boston will be more musical and take less box space. I recently changed from 3 10w1s in my truck behind the rear seat to 3 G1 10s at is sounds sweet.
