Get the smaller fins. The thing rides incredibly locked in with the stock skegs.

Joe, I am very interested in how that rides compared to your Shane. My son just bought a Shane and I tried it yesterday so the comparison would be v helpful. Many thanks in advance.

Big Heavy is right on about the fins. I switched mine to the 0.75" fins and its perfect. It locks in really well on edge but its super easy to break loose and slide around on. I love the setup.

Should I do the .75 for the 142 or keep the normal ones? You know since it a bigger board?

Does the board have any molded in fins, or just the 4 bolt ons?

I'll bet the color scheme freaked eveyone in the boat out, and they ordered him to "Put it away!" I really want to try the board, but my word...let's get something that isn't the color of pea soup.

Hi Joe, I would still love to hear about how your slingshot rides compared with your Shane. If you are keeping quiet because your views are negative and you prefer not to post them in public, please PM me. Many thanks. (Message edited by brutto_76 on September 05, 2007)

I can't believe none of you have gotten a chance to ride one of these yet. I've ridden the recoil a few times and was not a fan. I heard it was fast but after riding it considered it slow, although I do ride a natural so coming off that anything is slow. It landed incredibly hard. Apparently you’re supposed to land tail heavy for ultra soft landings, I was not aware of this until after I had rode it. The pop is weird, it’s really springing, but I couldn’t get half the air that I would get riding my board. I’m not saying that the board sucks; I’m just saying that it’s something that you definitely have to get used to. I have some friends that ride it and absolutely love it. I wasn’t a fan and I would be willing to bet that Joe won’t like it right away coming from the Shane. I thinks it’s one of those things that if you put the time in to learn how to properly use it, you’ll love it

I wish we could get a chance to ride them. I'm in the UK and there are none around. Slingshot do have a distributor here for kiteboards but they are not very helpful when it comes to wakeboards. The comments re pop and hard landings are very interesting. I'm looking for big pop and soft landings. I'd better stick with the Shane.

i totally disagree with benjamin. i have the recoil setup & have never rode a board with more pop or softer landings. the pop is suprisingly consistant since it flexes quite a bit. my previous board was a marius for soft landings. the recoil makes it feel like an old byerly. if u take a couple of sessions & can properly use a progressive edge this board will absolutely launch you.

I got a chance to ride the recoil. At first I didn't like it all. It was popping really weird and I wasn't popping very high. However, my subjekt finally broke the other day and I had to go back to the slingshot mainly because I didn't have anything else to ride. After the thrid time out I absolutley love it. If you cut with a progressive edge it will pop you pretty good. It is fairly loose and the landings are soft. Plus you can do crazy pressed out butters. It is way sick!!

I would have to say that there is not a chance in hell that you could consider the landings on this board to be "hard"; however, to each their own. I just purchased a recoil 142 after riding the 138 and the 137 response. I am coming from an 04 Marius 142. You do not have to land tail heavy for this board to land soft; you can land where ever you want. I have nothing to gain from posting this info, but I truly believe that this type of flex board is the next step in wakeboards. I am just a 24 year old math teacher who was sick and tired of getting my A#$ kicked by hard landings out in the flats.
