We were out boarding tonight, boat (06Xstar) was a little jumpy w PpAss. My son was ripping it up on an old Demented board.Water was flat as in a dream. We were getting to do the the go big or go home run when the boat start shaking and making all types of bad noises and vibrations.
I shut it down and got him in the boat. We idled bak the 3 miles to the lift- boat was unable to go over 6 mph due to excesive vibrations. I was worried about a bent shaft. Once on the lift I dove in and looked at the prop -13 x 17 4blade
And to my suprise there was a blade missing!SHeared off at the base!
We are on a deep water lake, never hit anything, no dings on any other blades, shaft or fins. I have had a boat for over 30 years and have never seen this happen.
Anyone ever had this happen? I will post pics when we get the prop off.
Any new prop recomendations?

Then to top it off after I got out of the water from checking on the prop I realized I dove in with my cell phone in my pocket.
What an expensive weekend this will be. Apple I phone here I come.....

Oh yeah i never got my run in either.

Thanks

i used to swear that either stuff floated or it sank...but logs do get to a neutral bouyancy state for a while...had the shaft break right at the prop...and thus lost the prop...just going thru an area we always go thru about 15 feet deep and all of a sudden no power...but motor works fine...15 miles from the marina...one time i was happy to see the sheriff and they did tow us in...more than once

If you didn't hit anything and there are no marks on the other blades, I would get ahold of OJ and send them pictures. They will be able to tell at the break if it was a defect or not. They are a standup company and if it is a defect, I am sure they will make it right.

Most brass props are cast, could have been a defect in the prop from the casting process, send it back to OJ they should be able to tell if there was a defect in the brass that started crack proppigation which lead to the blade shearing off

I took my motorola for a swim once. Take the cover off, get out the blow dryer and let it sit for a day to dry and it may work again!

Anything electronic you can just submerse in rubbing alcohol for however long you want. If it's really valuable take it to a service place still in the alcohol. If it's normal just leave it in for about 10 minutes and take it out to dry. Leave the power off until everything has had a good chance to dry. The hair dryer is great on lower heat.
Alcohol absorbs the water and dries very well without problems for electronics. Our house has a big bottle for just this purpose. Used it on phones many times, TV remotes, watches. I guess we're clumsy.

Oh, and I think the water would part for the iphone and it would stay dry...
