My family is planning a trip to Shasta in either August or September. The people at the marina said that the lake gets reasonably lower in September and there are many hazrds that emerge. If anyone has any experience at shasta, is there a noticeable difference in water levels betwwen August and September?

The lake will definitely be lower in September than in August, but it will still be pretty low in August. That time of year the water lever can go down at the rate of a foot per day. In the past I haven't had to worry about hazards too much, but some years are worse than others. Just watch where you are going and you should be fine. If I had to choose, I would go in August.
