Jeff, I have always surfed with booties. I hated stepping on the reef and all the sea creatures. I have tried not to wear them but it hurts the balls of my feet. It does look funny.

We surfing at 11.7 mph. Depends on the weight in your boat and the rider. My 14 y/o son like it around 10.5 mph.
