Im choosing between the skylon hd fat buddies (280 lbs each) 560lbs total, or lead weights. Im concerned w/ the lead weight when towing and just cruisin around with the extra weight when not riding.

do the fat sacs. I did sand bags and it was a pain having to haul those things around all the time.

Fat sacks. They take longer to fill up and empty, but you don't don't have to drag a bunch of weight around when you aren't using it.

You've pretty much got it on target if you are planning on trailering your boat......you should stay away from lead. While it is low profile and convienent.....it will kill you on the road. Fly Highs products are really good and come in a huge variety of sizes and shapes. I keep a couple blocks of lead mainly to balance out the wake as they are small and easy to move....but use water ballast for the rest. Good luck getting your boat set up.

I agree with Bill if you are a core rider and live on a lake and you ride 90% of the time lead is the way to go. If your like me and have to trailer your boat to and from the lake then fat sacs are the way to go.

like bill and duff, a combination. about 450 in lead. 2K in water. most trailers, even single axle, can handle <500 in lead. but theres no way i would ever run more than a thousand in lead. the bigger lifts are rated in the 5-6000lb range. so i don't think 100% lead is even an option

The purpose of lead is to get a little extra ballast in the tight area. It isn't supposed to be the main ballast.

any extra weight in the boat while your trailering it is bad news. as the trailer and boat bounces down the road so does the weight and it causes cracking of the floor and can crack the hull. lead is awsome if your not trailering far or keep the boat on the water. here on the delta we pretty much keep around 1000 in lead in the boat, fill up the stock ballast and fill the boat with people. if we dont have people then we jus fill extra sacks.

the benefit of lead is its fits in tight areas and weighs alot in small sizes. also sacks tend to move around a lil bit and can cause the wake to change as the boat rocks side to side.
