I have a 1985 supra sunsport with a pcm 454 engine. I am wanting to take the boat out this weekend with my family, but do not want to re winterize it again. I would pull the plugs and drain the water but is it neccesary to run antifreeze through the system, or can i just drain the water. I live in georgia where it does not stay below freezing for long but it gets there at night.

Patrick, i live in NC and it seems it would get, stay a little colder here than there -- i have never ran antifreeze through any of my boats,, drain the block and both manifolds.. you will be fine. if it is going to set for a few months, you may want to remove the impeller and stick it in a vaseline far or so.. my 0.02 -- some would disagree w/ me, but i have never had a problem.. however i normally run mine atleast every other weekend or so....

If you have a cold night and if your boat is near your house you can put a 40-watt caged shop light (the kind mechanics use with a hook on top) under your boat motor that should protect the block if you have a mild freeze.

Ed is right... But even if no water was drained, it would have to get in the low to mid 20's for a consecutive number of days to do any harm.....

I don't have the numbers, but the block has a lot of thermal mass. So if the day time temps run in the 40s and dips below 30 overnight, probably not a problem. If it's below 32 for a long stretch you better do something.

Joshua, besides the lamp I would drain the block as you suggest.

I'm in south georgia and all I do is drain the block. I did throw a heat lamp in there one night because a freeze was coming up on us and I had not winterized yet. That was the only time I've done that though.
