Just got a chance to see the X-2 in action. Definately lived up to the hype. The wakeboard wake is just as nice as the old X-2 but much wider. Also with stock ballast full the wake has more of a kick at the top. We rode with four guys and full ballast which seemed to be plenty but of course I can't wait to really weight one down. The slalom wake was also pretty impressive it is quite a bit better than any v-drive I have seen.
The most amazing thing about the boat is how it drives. It handles incredibly well I was expecting that it would drive similar to a X-10 but it drives more like a direct drive but better in the rough stuff.
The day was great check out the pictures just wish it had been warmer.

I agree with J rod, more weight.

I'm not doubting, and I'm not hating. I'm curious and I think you're kidding yourself.

Not many people here ride stock ballast only. That is certainly not enough wake. So slam it down and post some pictures of the real wake...please!

J-Rod, I would like to buy a boat from you after about 2-3 years. 2500lbs + stock ballast will kill a boat in a short time frame

Gator, you'd have a hard time buy a used boat around here. J rod isn't the only person slamming theier boat, almost everything out here is tuckin graphics.

Richest guy in the world is more like it

Load it! 1200 lbs, 1500 lbs, 2500 lbs. Wow, remember when no one knew what ballast was? What a tower was? What knee injuries were? And to think people still had fun.

See Christy knows what's up.

"2500lbs + stock ballast will kill a boat in a short time frame"

Have you ever witnessed this?

My last boat ran 2000 - 3000 pounds for nearly 800 hours and 4 years. No signs of any problems.

Darren / Psyclone,

Trust me Jrods for real...

Back to the boat - The new X2 looks sick, very roomy, wide wake, definatley possibilities... Many of us are intrested in the 2006 X2, but we have yet to see one SAC'd out with ballast + 1,000-2000. We are not trying to make cheapshots at the boat, wake, rider, lake - just eager to see what this boat can do if loaded down???

If anyone has a 06 X2 and has pics of the wake SAC'd down - many of us would love to check it!

I don't understand saying "add another 2500 pounds" to the boat plus stock ballast.

My 2000 VLX is a wide boat that is relatively hard to sink (compared to the SAN) and we run my boat with CENTERMLS(350)+REARLEFT(500)+REARRIGHT(500)+BOW(45 0) which equals 1800 in TOTAL ballast.

Also, I believe a SAN produces a great wake with just 1800 lbs on top of the bare boat.

Aki/Wes, what do you guys run in your SAN?

GD,

I would be content w/ 1,500 - 2000 total ( STOCK + 1K )

Jrod, Evan + many others are slamming there boats & have been killing it lately / going huge. Can't wait to see you guys rip it up @ Berryessa!

Aaron,

I've riden/driven the new X2 with only stock ballast and agree with everyone that it needed more weight. I typically put 2100-2200 in my '02 X2 and that's about right. I would think the same amount of weight in the new 2 would produce a great wake.

Unfortunately the day we drove the prototype nobody had any additional sacks and I myself didn't ride the stock wake as I'm still recovering from a blown ACL. The guys that did ride it though seemed to like it though they did comment it didn't have the same vertical lip as my X2/X1.

GD....We are assuming that because the new X2 has a wider beam, that it will take more weight, which has already been suggested by another guy here that demo'd. We currently run 2500-2800 pounds (total) in our 05 X2s, which is close to 1800 or 1900 over stock.

I would say you are right about the SAN taking less weight.

I'm just curious to see the potential of the new X2.

OK. But, every extra pound consumes gasoline, storage, handling and time-to-plane. I see an advantage to boats that produce great wakes with 1800 lbs vs 3000 lbs.

Hey J-Rod,
Just thought I would join in also. I haven't been behind your new boat but you have been behind mine so I am curious how our wakes compare. My boat is stock ballast and I have an additional 140 lbs under the very front bow cushion. Since I opted to go with the flat rear tanks, I have 60 lbs on each side to make them equal the wedge tanks. I would imagine your wake is substantially bigger than mine and I am looking forward some day to check it out.

X2+2600lbs=fun

and look: there's J-rod.

I'd like to see a new X2 loaded down. We like big wakes. Granted you have to baby the boats a bit more when loaded, but I've seen plenty of old X2/X-stars with upwards of a thousand hours fully loaded. J-rods old Malibu was a perfect example: boat was still sweet with 800 fully loaded hours.

Yes, that is one loaded X2! That wake must be huge!

Here are pics of my BU loaded. See the 500 lb budda bag in the front. I also have a pair in the back lockers plus 400 in the MLS.
If I put much more in my boat, the boat has a real hard time getting out of the water.

GD - try an ACME 537 prop, it's night & day compared to the stock 14x18 OJ.

Thanks Trace. Actually, I would like to try the new X2. If the wake is good, it could be my next boat.
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       11-23-2005, 3:14 PM Reply
The x2 does make a great wake with just an extra 500-1000 over stock. But it just gets better when you keep adding. You certainly don't need the kind of weight I am talking to make it good. The big weight does make it possible to ride longer ropes and faster speeds also. Before they were broken in, we just rode 5 feet shorter and .5 mph slower. The wake was big then too.

Jim, I remember your wake being good. It's hard to compare with a SAN. SAN wakes are taller and steeper to begin with. Plus we ride faster which brings the size down too. Come try it out for yourself.

don't worry I will be posting pics of the new X-2 weighted down asap. it just takes a while to get pumped up about 40degree water & possibly colder air.

Darren,

The water temp is only 48 degrees right now. Wait till it hits 42/43 range, and you get an ice cream headache every time your head hits the water.

If you bring that thing out for us to demo, we'll supply the 1000lbs of additional ballast for you free of charge.

We're riding tomorrow in the morning, Friday, and Saturday if your interested.

The water should look like this after the fog burns off.

He bought his boat from Tony Castagnero, as did I. Tony hooks it up, and he's a a rider.

I bought my 04 from Tony too. He's a cool guy. I called him up the other day to ask about an 06. He remembered exactly who I was and which boat I had after not talking to him for a year and a half.

Im a terrible wakeboarder and have never really slammed my boat. But I can say when I had my ProV I had a guy in my boat once that was getting more air then anyone I have ever seen and we were using no balast not even the stock. I know he probabbly would have went highr and further with it slammed but I can guarentee this guy could go bigger with no balast then most guys could with it slammed. Its all good
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       11-23-2005, 9:50 PM Reply
Daniel, what was his name?

Tony is cool as hell. Invite him out to ride. He's a lot better than your average boat sales guy. He's got some sick moves. You couldn't ask for a more honest, nicer guy to buy a boat from.

hooray for slammed :-) I agree with Evan and J-rod, more weight = more fun. That being said, proper technique is very important when dealing with a big wake

J-Rod: I gave your dock tie to Big Ed when he came out with me one time... he said he links up with you a bit, and I've been unsuccessful in returning it to you for a while. Just letting you know haha.

another vote here for more weight. Big wakes are fun
Old     (bughunter)      Join Date: Nov 2001       11-27-2005, 4:39 PM Reply
We add weight to our '02 X-Star(now X2 or even X1), about 1000lbs on top of standard ballast. Great wake. If you even it out and put enough weight up front the handling is not affected that much. You feel it of course, but the boat still planes quickly enough and turns on a dime.

As the thread shifted form X2 to adding ballast anyway and with the risk that this has been discussed before...
Why do these wakeboard-boat specific builders make boats that we still have to mess with fat-sacks/lead, etc ?
Why not make a boat with enough build-in ballast to satisfy everyone ?
I believe the X2 went from 800lbs build-in for the oldX2/X1, down to 700lbs ?!

V210 "slammed" Ok, the 210 only takes around 1800 to load it down but the wake is pretty good with this "modest" amount of weight.

I had that orange photoshoot X-2 over at my house for a day and I thought it was sick, if you want a big wake you need more weight but we had Stock Balast + 10 people and the wake was pretty sick. This boat is has more room, has a great wake shape, and handles/planes off amazingly well. of all 10 people in the boat, everyone was 110% impressed, I HAVE NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS THING
