99 Tige 21V loaded down with about 8 people. Going from a jet ski wake(or lack there of) to that was very intimidating.

16' hamilton aluminum jet boat with v8 chev in 4' of water on the lower wairau river, south island new zealand. took ten or twelve tries for me to get up on a home made balsa wood "skurfer" that we carved, after viewing pictures of the original "skurfer" in an american magazine... duct tape type straps and 35' of braided climbing rope from my pops land rover, with a custom "puka" tree wood handle. been "hooked" ever since... the wake wasn't there but the rooster was a nice reminder that it was a jet boat. 1966, 16 foot, Starcraft, 55 HP Johnson. That boat was light as a feather and barely made a ripple in the water. It pulled us out of the water on slalom skis without any problem - until we were about 12, then it was all it could do to get us up.

Jon, there weren't many ski boats around then, and they sucked for open water...

Not my first pull, but when I was in jr. high, my buddy and I would spend all day at the river in a 14' aluminum boat w/ a 1971 Merc 9.8hp. We skied on a pair of Sears skis. After I got up I could drop one and slalom. We had to start by circling the skier keeping the rope tight and increasing the arc, until the boat had enough momentum to pull up the 100 lb skier. I still have that 9.8 and use it all the time. Anyone ever get pulled behind less hp?

2000 Mighty Malibu Wakesetter Escape LSV courtesy of Dave Williams, which happens to be for sale if you haven't seen it, it is one sweet boat, all white with all the options, Wedge, etc. http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/8/226896.html?1115974331 I skurfed a few times back in '87. That doesn't count. It was not known as wakeboarding then.

first time wakeboarding? hmmm.. been a while. My first time, and I think it has A LOT to do with my love for wakeboarding/ boats, besides having grown up on the water, was in....88' or 89' behind a SAN with Brandon Meek and Greg Nelson. Late WakeTec early Double Up. Wow, thanks for asking... it was all over at that point. The family 89' MC ProStar 190 never saw it coming. maybe that was Dad.. lol.. hundreds of lbs sand in the bow and a 1500 lb waterbed mattress in the back. We called her, Old Master C!!

The year was 1996, my buddy's parents bought a 1993(?) MC Prostar 190. We used coolers full of lake water for ballast and took out the rear bench seat. It was sick. Not really.

It was sometime in the mid 1980's behind a 1970 something orange BONITA tri-hull with a 150 Johnson strapped to the back...this was pre-skurfer so we "rode" ski's and kneeboards.

Rode behind a 11' Malibu john boat with a tiller steer 20 Merc but on a Kneeboard, at 9 or 10 years old. Quite sure it's not the Malibu of today. First time on a wakeboard was behind a Sunesta 232 deck boat. And those sandle strap bindings of the day were dangerous.
