I am not opposed to development and i am a capitalist at heart. the problem is that the lake (i mean damned river) is maybe 22 miles long and averages about 200 yards wide. the lake needed capacity limits before the boat barn was even a consideration... for the sake of argument, lets say that the lake is exactly 22 miles long. that would make it 38,720 yards long. without counting all of the existing boats on the lake, if the boat barn were operating at capacity (180 boats, which the city and developers MUST plan for), and all of those boats were in the water, you would have a boat every 215 yards. now, if you assume that you get another 210 boats on the lake from the launch ramps (75 from 360, 15 cuernavaca, 30 from oyster/walsh landing, 20 from emma long, 20 from apache shores, 30 from quinlan, 20 from steiner) on any given weekend, and that makes 390 boats or a boat every 99 yards. Now factor all of the boats that are on lifts on the lake and you will be able to smell the armpits of every wally that blasts past you.... i think it is reasonable to assume the launch numbers will be met on a normal summer weekend. i i also think that you could assume that 50% of the boat barns vessels would be in the water just because of its proximity to the city. you will probably get another 50 boats from lifts at marinas and houses on the lake. that is still 350 boats, or a boat every 110 yards... i ride an 80 foot line, plus my 22 foot boat, that equal 30 yards that my vessel and rider take up, leaving 70 yards between boats... the math is gay, but you can see the potential for unsafe conditions, especially when you get several boats in a congested area...
