I've used rocks, as well as sand... The sand worked a lot better. We lined military style duffle bags with trash bags, and then filled them with sand... It'll take 2 people to safely manuever it into, and around, your boat. -Blake

how much will a 2 ft pvc pipe filled with concrete weigh? I filled one with old wheel weights and it only came out to 30 lbs Im sure if I melted it down and them it would be 35-40lbs. I'm looking for the most weight in the least space. I want to add about 500 lbs

randall, get longer pieces and place them along the sides of the inside of the boat...that way you still have room to walk around too. usually about 2 each side and them make other sizes too if you want and place them where ever you want.... maybe 4 or 5 pieces of smaller ones in the ski locker...? usually works good...specially if you use fat sacks still with it.

My boat has factory ballast, that consists of one bag in the ski locker and a tank under the rear seat and a wake plate. But I have a DD boat so I'm trying to add the weight without losing all of my storage space. I'm going to add an extra battery and a sub before the summer And I work at a car dealer so, I get all the free lead I need. Do most people use 4 inch pvc pipe or 3 inch? Being a DD boat should I try to keep more weight in the rear locker or should I put equal amounts front and back?

I used to use ice chests. I'd hang it off the swin platform, put my foot in, and then two of us would pull it out. (It worked but I'm glad I switched to sacs.) Another method is just open your drain plug for a few minutes. I only tried it once (accidently) but it works!

Randall, melt that shait down and put it in one of those small bread loaf disposable tins. I had 30" long 3" ID tubes full of old wheel weights then filled with h2o only weighed about35 lbs. It took almost 2 of those tubes melted to fill one bread pan about 45 lbs with 1/2 the space.

I was working today and I found another substance that has a good bit of weight to it. We have an almost endless supply of brake shavings from where we machine rotors. Since I don't really want to deal with the fumes and risks involved with melting lead, I'm going to try a combo of lead cut into smaller pieces and mix the brake shavings in to take up the free space and see how much I can come up with.

Wouldn't the shavings from your brake lathe contain more hazzardous materials than melting the lead? They will also make a rusty mess if they get wet...

I thought about using gold, but I cashed all my gold in to buy the boat. Maybe this would work though http://chemistry.about.com/cs/generalchemistry/a/aa050601a.htm
