Nick, I live in the Sierras and the Titan had some issues pulling at the 6000-8000 ft elevation. I was either at 2500 rpm and loosing speed or at 4500-5000 rpm and pulling away from people. Dont get me wrong, I loved the Titan but it never inspired confidence while towing. All that power comes at a price, fuel economy. I could never ave over 14mpg just driving and somewhere in the 9-10 range towing. I live 2 miles from the freeway and could actually watch the gas gauge go down just to the freeway entrance. I never towed with the F150 or the 1500 so I cant compare. The other issue was tranny heating. It would heat up, not extreme, everytime the road turned upward. IMO a truck that bills itself as the ultimate half ton tow vehicle should not heat the tranny while towing just over half its rated capacity. I always said that it would be a much better tow vehicle at lower altitudes. I just dont like to work my engines as hard as I was having to work the Titan to get the perceived performance out of it. I'm glad your family enjoys your Titan and I'm sure it will provide you with many years of reliable service. Hope that answers your questions.

If you're going to lay down the cash for a Unimog, you might as well skip right ahead to the very best, the Deuce and a Half: I'll admit it's only a 6 cylinder but you can use diesel OR gas in it so you don't have to get into these uriniating contests about best fuel type. You could also use heating oil, turpentine, or just about any other combustable substance. Maintenance is a breeze and it is quite literally bullet-proof in some parts. Now keep in mind that you can only haul about 10-20 people and 4 months worth of camping gear in it so if you're a serious camper, it might be a bit small. And you may want to check the towing capacity just to be sure. But I did see one for sale the other day for about $7000.

supra for me..."gene are you an idiot, the h1 is built by am general not gm like the suburban, they do not share one part," How 'bout that 6.5 liter turbo diesel? That's more than one part. How about the transfer case, wheel bearings, brake parts, interior pedals, fuse box, electronics, steering wheel, radiator? The list goes on and on. Where do you think AM General got their parts? Gene Williams..."That being said. Who is the idiot with the big mouth. The original AM General is out of business. GM makes all Hummers now!" H1 Hummers and/or miltary humvee's are still made 100% by AM General, only backed financially by GM (who doesn't do a very good job, IMVHO). To stay on subject, buy any modern-day diesel pick-up you can aFORD.

fast fast fast, Thank you for backing me up!!!! That is what I said in my original post! Not sure if both of you understood me or not. Mr. Supraforme seems to wanna call everyone an idiot because he is the overly zealous owner of two Hummers and seems to know everything about them! Supra for me - Once again, the original AM General is out of business! Read the post And by the way smart ass: The Hummer H1 Alpha is only rated for 5000lbs. You have lost your official right to call anyone an idiot. http://www.autoweb.com/content/research/searchresults/index.cfm/action/SelectTrim/make_vch/Hummer/model_vch/H1%20Alpha/virsection/summary

hey fast fast fast, the 6.5 in my h1 is built by am general, there were a few built by gm but they have a tendency to have cracked blocks, ps gm don't build many of these parts you speak of they are bought by gm, and am general, from suppliers, and am general is in no way backed by gm, gm bought ONLY THE MARKETING RIGHTS

It's cool man..... The BCS is truly screwed now! They absolutely have to make some changes. Here is a post I put on Dallaswakeboarding.com: I cannot believe that the BCS took strength of schedule out of factoring ranking! It just kills me how many top 10 teams are in the top 10 without ever having to play a top 10 team. If the team has played a top 10 team they lost! Louisville & West Virginia have such creampuff schedules (They have only played each other) yet they are in the top 10. Cal lost to Tennesssee (ranked #23 at the time) still has not played a top 10 team yet still in the top 10. Our favorite media darling USC (who always has a creampuff schedule) has not played a top 10 team, lost to an unranked team and are still in the top 10!!! Notre Dame lost to Michigan when they were #11 has not played a top 10 team and you guessed it, still in the top 10.

I find that hard to believe since the only top 20 teams on there schedule are West Virginia & Rutgers. Penn State & LSU have two of the hardest schedule in the country playing 4 top 10 teams! Put any team in the SEC and it is unlikely they get out without a loss. The SEC has like 6 teams that would tear Louisville a new one.

LSU- #3 Auburn #5 Florida, #8 Tennessee, #11 Arkansas will be top ten next week (but they play them in 2 weeks) & Alabama would be ranked if they didn't have to play 5 top 10 teams! Penn State- #1 Ohio State, #2 Michigan, #4 Notre Dame, #17 Wisconsin (I thought it was 4 only three)

You are pimping 5 & 6 win teams? What a joke! My prediction: If Louisville goes to a bowl with an SEC team they will get blown out by at least 20 points. Hell any real team will destroy them. They have not played anybody big and won!

My ears are hurting - PLEASE TURN OFF CAPS LOCK!! btw - Big East has been getting a ton of press for not being as bad as people thought...time to re-think that opinion. SEC is unbelievably tough top to bottom. And my boys in the Pac 10 continue to eat their own with a lot of mediocracy and only two fairly good teams at the top.

The H2 has a magnacharger Radix system Supercharger making it about 480HP(it hauls ass), and now its sitting on 37x13.50 Toyo Open Country MT's on 18's... The Ford has the Edge Diesel Tuner and Banks Monster Exhaust, along with a 4 inch BDS lift, and 35x12.50 Cooper Discoverer Mud Terrains on 18's, and they both tow like monsters.

Supra, I was rootin' for Louisville last night. Ever since our game I have been following them a little. Programs like ours only get a few chances at a National title and last night reminded me a lot of when our 1998 run ended losing to A&M in double overtime at the Big 12 Championship. Gene, K-State may be a six win team, but coming into Manhattan, KS and playing against a hyped up packed house isn't easy. Bill Snyder Stadium is easily one of the loudest stadiums in the country when it's rocking, most of the stadium is underground, and it was definately rocking that day.

Thanks! I built the truck to match the boat and had Extreme trailers build me the trailer and tried to get the wheels to match truck to trailer as close as possible. The truck and boat was featured in Truckin magazine this past August issue. I am very happy with the way it all turned out. Danny, clean truck. I thought it was going to look a little crazy with the 22's. But I wouldn't have it any other way now. Toyo is making a 37 on 24 mud TA. If they come out with a 40 on 24, I might go up. Just for the heck of it. But then I will have to change my "bling" emblems!

I thought it was very fitting seeing as how Texas has not played any top 10 teams except for #1 Ohio St. and got whooped. Just like Louisville they don't play anyone tough they can beat except maybe Oklahoma (big rival). Didn't see it but looked like a close game. Louisville would absolutely get crushed. By the way Kansas State almost got shutout by Baylor (at the bottom of their division), nothing to be proud of IMO.

96 years of building trucks and tow vehicles. GM does a good job of building a reliable tow vehicle. I tow with a gas motor and usually get 11-13 mpg depending on how much of a hurry I am in(yeah that boat has been 85 just not in the water). I don't have the power of a diesel and never will but to drive every day my truck is definately nicer to get around in. BTW I have an 05 silverado crew that has 5.3, 4.10 rear, leather, dvd, xm, blah, blah...and could be had for under 30k used and for around 35K new. Congrats on being able to spend 35 to get something to tow with.

Sounds like Diesel is the consensus on this board so I think it's a little late to throw in my opinion. But I will say that for a gas truck the Titan is the way to go. It outperforms any other 1/2 truck and it's powertrain is amongst the best for a gas truck. And just like all the others you can mod the hell out of it as well. And when you're not towing it's a fun truck to drive. For just a few bolt on mods, or stock for stock, it's amongst the fastest truck out there. I tow my XLV, about 5,500lbs plus gear, and it tows it beautifully! The reason I bought the truck. And again, when not towing, it's a FUN truck to drive! Jim- I wanted to address some of your issues you have had with your Titan. I'm on a few Titan forums with members who tow alot and no one has had a problem with the trans heating up. Are you pulling in 4th or D which is overdrive? Overdrive under heavy loads will definitely heat the trans up. Were you using the tow mode? Something else that helps with trans temp. Again, it's not an issue that we Titan owners have heard of. As for your gas guage going down rapidly, Nissan designed the gas guage light to come on way way way early which means that the guage moves fast. It's something we all have learned. There is a way to get into the ECU and see the actual numbers that the computer uses to indicate fuel levels. It's a number that represents exactly how much fuel is in the tank. As for my experience with the Titan, it tows my XLV with authority. Sorry you didn't have a good experience with your Titan, the masses who own them or driven them all rave about it's capabilities as a 1/2 ton truck. It's engine is underrated and it shows when when you put your foot into it or bolt on a few mods and see the difference. The Titan's drivetrain is the most efficient of any other truck. It puts more of it's HP and Torq to the pavement than any other truck. Had to add my opinion! Nick- I agree with you, Bill Snyder Stadium is one LOUD place!!! I'll be hittin up many more games in the next few seasons. My dad just moved to Manhattan this past summer so now I have a place to stay when I visit!

Kraig, Glad to hear you love your Titan. Don't get me wrong I liked the truck quite a bit. For a day to day drive it was fine, it did not tow with the authority I thought it should. When I towed it was always in tow mode and at least 4th gear, if not 3rd or even 2nd depending on terrain. One thing that may make a difference is I do not like to rev a motor to the 4000-5000 rpm to get the power out of them. This is exactly what I had to do with the Titan. As for tranny heating, it never reached the warning line on the temp gauge but would get close almost everytime I towed. I heard about the tranny heating problems on two Titan forums; ClubTitan and Titan Talk, both had multiple threads on tranny heating. I actually heard about the problem long before I experienced the problem. The first few times I towed the boat there was no heating issue. Then I towed over Donner Summit one time and it did it every time after. Coincedence? maybe. As for fuel economy, what the gauge says is rather irrelevant, when I do the math the mileage always came out to horrible while driving and even worse while towing. There is no way around that. One week after I got the diesel I took the boat to a lake about 100 miles away with steep curvey roads. There was no comparison between gas and diesel. I averaged almost the same mileage towing the boat with the diesel as I did just driving the Titan and had plenty of power to spare. The Titan also needs to beef up the rear suspension. When we loaded the Titan bed with weekend camping gear the truck towed completely different, like the front end wanted to wander side to side. The payload was well under 1000lbs. I wish you continued luck with your Titan. I have no harsh feelings toward the Titan and would own another if things went that way. I just would have expected better performance out of the truck. Who knows, if I would have towed with another 1/2 ton truck first I may very well think the Titan was the greatest truck on earth.
