Thinking about getting one but I've never owned a Malibu before. I've heard both good and bad things from people who own or have owned them. Just looking to here what current owners say about them.
Currently I own a 2015 Supra SC400 but looking to get a new boat.
Cheers!

Not an owner but did test a new 2017 22 MXZ this weekend. Initial thoughts (currently own a 2009 X-Star), materials, fit & finish much better than previous years I had seen. sounded nice on the water, very good looking boat. Board racks good, touch screen looked great. limited storage (compared with my current boat), seemed roomier overall though. sadly only able to test it in shallow water, wakeboard wake with wedge down was absolutely insane - you could almost part with your cash just for that, wakesurf wake seemed good considering the shallow depth but need to go and re-test that when its dialled in or maybe in deeper water (I'm hoping its going to be awesome). - only had 3 or 4 hours in/around it but was impressed and enough to consider buying one, could do with a bit more testing though..
look forward to seeing what other people post on this thread and their thoughts about the wakesurf wake (as a surf wave is my only consideration for changing boat otherwise happy with mine)
also looking to see how people rate the surf wave vs say the G23 or X23

Spent all day Sunday on a 24 MXZ (drove it for a few hours, wakeboarded, wakesurfed, etc...). Favorite boat out there, hands down. I'm sure the 22 is every bit as good, minus some size.
The Wake and Wave are huge

When you guys did your demo's did they have the extra 500# sacs in the rear or just the hard tanks?

Remember, the 2017 is a completely new hull and boat from the previous MXZ.
I own one and have 70 trouble free hours on my '17.
Run the plug n play in the back at about 75% full if you don't have passengers/weight in the nose and enjoy.
The wake and wave will exceed everyone's ability level. It's awesome.

I had full front ballast (additional ballast tank on the demo boat to), rears half full I believe plus full wedge - sadly tested in shallow water so i'm confident the surf wake will be way better than I saw on the day, wakeboard wake still waaaaay out performed my X-Star in shallow water.
no additional ballast bags were in the boat just factory...

That's interesting to hear. The 2nd gen xstar is my favorite wake I've ever ridden.
We're due for an upgrade this year so I think we'll have to take the mxz for a test ride.

With plug-n-play
For wakeboarding, depending on what speed you ride, the plug n play is overkill. I like to ride at 22mph, but with the Plug n Play full, and about 10 people on the boat, it wasn't cleaning up until 22.8 or so. And that's a 24MXZ, again, full plug n play and 10 passengers.
But it's SUPER nice with the tanks that come up the side, that the ballast gauge on the screen reads the percentage of the tank AND plug-n-play together.

I was going to say hold off for the new redesigned 23 LSV that is coming very soon....
Congrats on your new 22 MXZ! Have not personally been out in one but they are getting great reviews on the wakeboard and surf waves.
FWIW, I am on my 4th Malibu (2011,13,15,17). Have had very few problems on all my boats and Malibu has always fixed anything I have requested.
Enjoy your new ride! :-)
