There are really only 2 things in an engine that need breaking in and one of them, the cam/lifters, doesn't apply anymore because everythings got roller lifters. The rings need to be "seated" with the cylinder walls. Until this happens (maybe 10-20hrs) it might use a little oil.
There is no such thing a breaking in bearings, the bearings should never touch the crankshaft, oil is between them. If they touch, the clearances are wrong, breaking in won't fix this.
Running an engine easy doesn't make it stronger, it is what it is.
The break-in period also applies to the transmission and v-drive,, these gears/bearings need to seat also.
It would be difficult for me to keep under 2k for 10 hrs, I don't think it would even plane.
