Most standard trailers these days are designed to travel level when the ball is 18" off the ground to the top of the ball. Take a known drop hitch...say a 2"...put it on your truck, measure from the ground to the top of the ball, subtract 18" and that will tell you how much more of a drop you need.
I also factor in the drop in suspension when the weight of the boat is on the hitch to maintain that 18" height.
