I have been looking at the titan trucks for a while now but don't know much about them.Anybody here tow with one?If so how does it pull and how reliable are they? What kind of mileage can I expect?Just trying to get a feel before I put it on my short list. Thanks,Ryan

I have a friend in Portland who tows his 23' LSV with a Titan. We have taken both to Shasta a few times (I-5 thru the Siskiyous is a good test). It tows great. But gets terrible mileage. Less than 10 on that drive. And like 13 - 15 when he's not towing. The truck was wrecked recently & they are debating with the insurance company as to whether or not it will get totaled. While it tows great, I get the impression he's ready to move on.

That mileage sounds on par with every other full size pickup IMO.

My 2009 F150 (5.4L) averaged 15.7 towing MB-B52 from Michigan to Florida. Cruise control set 70-75 straight through. 20-22 Hwy mpg when not towing.

I have had one for 4 years now and love it. I am on flat ground, but it tows my X Star like nothing and I have towed an X 80 with it pretty easily. Mileage is not the best. I don't know what I get when I tow, I have never done a tow only trip. I usually just take it to the dealer and back, but around town I get closer to 16 and I have a heavy foot.

DBC, he works for Ford... I don't even get 15.7 driving unloaded (still breaking in) and I drive slow and ease on starts/stops. Titans are sweet looking trucks! There are a few around town with lifts/level kits and nice looking wheels and tires and they look great!

I've liked those trucks ever since they came out. 03? Looks, performance and capabilities. I got the chance to drive one and they are solid trucks. Not very good mileage, but none of the half tons have superb mileage. Nissan use to have a limited edition No Fear Titan and those things were sick. With that said, I vaguely remember hearing that Nissan was going to ax the Titan and Chrysler was going to build a truck for them. I don't know if that is true or not.

I get 15.4 in my Armada unloaded and about 12 when I tow. Mine has been pretty much bulletproof with 67k miles on it so far. I think it tows excellent.

Brock, My Brother has a Titan and loves it. Off topic but My F-150 doesn't get anywhere near 15.7 while towing either. I love it but it's a pig on gas.

OK, lets put it this way...... it gets worse mileage than my Avalanche does. But tows better. So it just depends on what you need it for.

My Dad had one. Mileage sounds right. And the towing part was an enclosed 12' trailer with a golf cart. He traded it back after 6 months because of the fuel economy. Any gas burning truck is gonna die with something hooked up to it. Only a diesel will still have respectable mileage when loaded.

I tow a Sanger V210 with am 07' Titan 2wd Crew Cab and get 10mpg when towing. Usually on the hwy I get 18mpg. There is no question regarding the towing capabilities. I have no problems climbing the passes in NorCal with the boat in tow. Bought the truck new just for the tow rating and seating capacity. Sure I wish the mileage was better but overall am pleased with how the truck performs.

Yeah agreed, they rock! My Armada gets 12 towing, doesn't matter, straight down the freeway to Shasta or windy roads to Oroville.. I have a heavy foot. They are average with most other full size trucks, no gas V-8 will get 15 or above towing anything that weights anything. I call BS! P.S. above is a great looking truck Very nice DBC!

I was standing at the repair end of the Nissan dealership and asked what the pile of rear axles were from. The techs reply "Titan's". Do your homework. Although that is also what warranties are for.

I have to call BS on Matt as well. Not possible on that truck in the real world. Chevy Claims I get 18-21 and I have never seen better than 15. It is still better than the Ford I had. Why do people lie about this, it is what it is.

Just to compare, my 07 Sierra 5.4l gets 14-15 MPG normally, and 9 MPG towing. I figured this was average for the standard motors in the full size pickups.

Nice truck DBC!!! That is siiick! I call BS on the mileage for the Avalanche too. I owned one and got rid of it because with my 19' Rinker it got 11 mpg on a good day and towing my Tige, it was anywhere from 6-9 at most! The biggest liars are the diesel owners, I got a diesel because I read all these posts about 13-15 mpg towing and the best I have ever seen is 12 and that was with a tailwind. Maybe it's because we have 75 mph speed limits and the shortest distance I am towing is 35 miles at that speed. That black Titan really makes me want to get one of those!

I have had my 04 Titan since 04. Enough said. I've owned them all, but this one wins, especially for the price. I'm on 35s and mileage is sketchy, but no worse than 10 while towing. If I re-geared I could probably gain a few. Heres an older pic:

As for the plans to have dodge build the truck you can scratch that idea. I work at the Nissan Plant where the titan is built and as far as I know it's going no where anytime soon.

Steven: Off topic a bit here, but that's great news Titan is hanging around. Have you heard for sure no more Armada after 2010 run? We here they are looking at making some kind of "Sprinter look-a-like"? As a replacement, say it isn't so. G

Greg I've heard no such rumors, I'm a contractor at the plant and deal with alot of the automation and automation periferals as well as database stuff, so I'm not privy to all the insider information. As far as I know right now, the only major change coming down the pipeline is the LCV( Light Comercial Vehicle) which as we speak the plant is currently being retrofitted for its production. I'll keep an eye out for any information regarding that though. What I can say with certainty is that if they axe the armada, the qx56 will go as well since they're virtually identical. Additionally I would expect titan prices to rise if that were to happen due to shared parts not being shared any more

Thanks for the update... Good news I'm a huge fan of both, actually technically all three QX kind of luxury for my use, but nice rig. I will try to ask around a bit more, but for a while they were talking about no Titan or Armada which as you pointed out no Qx then. I know the focus is on economical efforts, I agree with that philosophy, but there a large segment of us that need to tow stuff. Thanks again G

When I was at the dealer a few months ago he told me they were doing a redesign of the Armada. However, I'd tend to trust Steven's info a LOT more.

My armada tows great. gas milege isn't the best at 16-17 mpg not towing and 7-8 mpg when towing down the interstate. Not the best in gas but I have had it for 5 years and have only had the AC worked on in 70,000 miles.

Hey OnlyInboards, I've just run across this on one of my forums, apparently a redesign is on the way, but the article isn't exactly acurate as it states that production on the qx56 has stopped even though i can walk out of my shop and see em on the line lol There may be a truth to the redesign, and if there is I don't know when it'll happen, but I'll try to keep you up to date. http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1035112_2011-infiniti-qx-preview

I have an 05 - great truck. lots of power. The only documented negative is front rotors tend to warp. Have to get a 3rd set with only 70,000. First 2 sets were free. We'll see what they do now that it's out of warranty.

i sell nissan parts at a dealer they are nice trucks but yes the brake judder was a problem. the front shaft fall out if you lift them or use them for real off roading. and the rearends have problems.leaky outer seals and gears. if you break anything in the pumpkin you gotta replace the whole rearend. i think they are nice trucks that will pull like crazy but i would make shure warranty would cover these issues if i got a used one.

HIJACK Hey Chris... can you tell me what it costs to replace the entire stereo on an 06 armada? My kids thought it would be fun to stuff all my loose change into the CD changer and when I turned it on something fried (smelled really bad). Now it won't even turn on for AUX, Radio or DVD. END HIJACK

OnlInboards.com your kids were telling you it is time for a small stereo upgrade. In reality it is probably cheaper to switch to an aftermarket radio. Plus you can get something a little higher quality.

I have an 05 that I absolutely love! They tow great and when not towing they're extremly fun to drive! I still get a big smile everytime I crank that thing over and pull out of the driveway. Yes, the 2004's and early 2005's had some issues. Brake judder, rear ends and, as posted earlier, a front drive shaft problem if you lift them. I know they solved the brake and rear end problems. The rear end problem was a Dana axle problem, not necessarily a Nissan problem. It's a Dana axle, that's who builds the axles for pretty much all the full size trucks out there. And as for the brake issue, that's an issue Toyota, Ford and Chevy have all had. ALL manufacturers cut back in some way or another. Sometimes they get burned and have to fix the problem. It's HOW they handle it that you need to look at. Since 2004, the first year of the Titan, Nissan solved the issues and since then it's been a solid truck. What alot of people don't know is that Nissan is notorious for underrating their engines. The Endurance V8 is a strong motor for towing. On top of that, the transmission and rear end are very efficient, more HP makes it to the pavement from the flywheel. Just my $.02

I agree with the comments on the Armada - the one I had towed our 23 LSV like a champ. The suburban I tow with now sucks big time in comparison.

I have an '04 LE 4x4, tows a Yamaha AR230HO, never a problem towing, accelerating, or braking. It still hasn't reach 60k miles yet. I get 14.0 - 14.5 MPG (on BFG AT-KO) combined city/hwy, it was 15.5 MPG when I had the OEM BFG Rugged Trail tires (POS tires). Towing the boat, I get 10.5 - 11.5 MPG, going to Shasta and other long trips (depending on speed). I also have a winch and steel bumper in the front, adding 200 lbs of dead weight to the vehicle. Some of the comments on the low mileage is because the Titan still uses a 5 spd transmission or they don't have the most fuel efficient tires. The 5-spd transmission was the most at that time (2004) for a V-8 truck. Now, most trucks have 6 spd transmission (or cylinder deactivation features) so they do get better gas mileage and their tires are also geared for more on-street driving. The Titan tow gear is also equivalent to a truck with 4.10 ration. So, when people compare gas mileage, they need to make sure the gear ratio is the same, tires are comparable, etc. to make a real comparison. (Message edited by kvoman on February 26, 2010)
