cold, it's not free. Look at all the direct and indirect taxes in the UK. Socialism is expensive and oppressive. You end up with far less freedom, much higher taxes, and the services sector declines in quality and quantity the more government messes with it. A free market solution is much better. Now US health care got screwed up a few decades ago when big government got their hands in healthcare as well as medical insurance. They need to back off if the US healthcare system is to improve. As for not getting care or being uninsured... I was uninsured for a while. No big deal. I'm young and healthy and couldn't justify the cost of insurance especially after lsoing my job and being unemployed for 6 months. I never collected from the socialist unemployment taxes I pay because I'm a responsible person and save for when times may be tough. While uninsured I took care to reduce my risk of injury, by not riding dirt bikes or other things that put me at a higher risk. For the past couple years I've only had major medical coverage. I pretty much don't go to doctors unless I'm unconscious and wake up there. Hospitols are unpleasant and only necessary for broken bones, extrme burns, or other major health issues. Last time I saw a doctor was last year when I dropped my bike on the highway, before that was over 10 years prior when I had my appendix taken out. Problems arise from healthcare being perceived as "free". Then people go in for anything and everything, and they clog up emergency rooms as well. Then you get socialist governments limiting doctors pay and charges for operations, so doctors go into other areas of practice with less restrictions, or go into another field altogether. Then government mandates minimum coverages of insurance, driving cost up for all. Those like myself who are young and healthy don't need extensive coverage for general bodily failures from being old or just bad genes. Sorry, but healthcare is NOT a right. It is a commodity with prices to be set by what people are willing to pay, just like any other service. In America your rights boil down to the right to succeed or fail on your own. Sorry folks if that's too political for here, but this thread was headed there fast. Perhaps should be in the OT section.
