So I currently have four Pro 80's pushed by the syn 2 amp and I love this set up. For some odd reason I don't feel its loud enough while riding plus I'm never satisfied with what I have! Needless to say I'm looking at adding a 485. My question is this; Is this overkill? Does anybody have this setup? I'm assuming I will have to switch amps as well? Thanks in advance......

I have had two different wetsounds systems. My first was 4 pro 60's. My second was 4 pro 80's and a 485. Yes its overkill. Yes you cant turn it all the way up without your head feeling like its going to explode. I was tired of hitting by head and tired of being blown out in the boat. So we sold our system. Its fun for awhile.

Get a FAE and you will be amazed how little you need the volume up especially on Malibus and MC's, they tend to be a bit on the louder side when running.

Ryan What kind of amp did you run? I've found a great way to not get blown out of the boat is to have an EQ to fade you boat speakers out. Has worked great for me! Thanks for the input. Jonny, I love the loudness of the engine....kind of a gear head but I see where that can help. Kevin, what are you running? Chris

We had a rockford Fosgate 800-4. They dont make it anymore but its completely underated. If I recall it was over 1000 watts it was putting out. We had the EQ aswell but if you wanted to hear it riding it had to be about half way up. The differance between the two systems that we had was where the tower sat. Our first one was a 2005 centurion enzo and the tower ended just about the back seats. Our new 2008 enzo ends right about the driver seat so that contrubutes hugely to getting blown out. The 485 makes a huge differance. I think every wetsounds setup should have a 485 or MB 8's attached. Dont get be wrong we absolutely loved our system and we had complements on it every day out on the lake. We decided to sell them when we had to get out tower replaced and centurion would not pay to put the speakers up so we were looking at close to anouther 600 to reinstall and we paid 1500 for the entire system (installed).

Actually its my buddy Greg's boat and he has the Liquid Acoustics 8" twins in the center and the Bullets 6.5's sitting in liquid trend pods on the side! The boat was louder then the budlight barge that had a DJ on it! Crazy!

Well I know for a fact its not the install! Looks like adding a 485 might be just what I'm looking for in regards to sound. What would the MB 8's add to the sound quality? I'm assuming more bass or midrange?

More midrange which won't really make its way to the rider so much but it's great for surfing or partying it up. I have a hard time believing its not loud enough at the rider, maybe you just want a louder boat in general. Honestly for the money I'd probably get the 485 it's $75 more but you get an HLCD. I feel the MB8 should be cheaper based on the fact that you're not getting a HLCD in it.

Hate, thanks for the info.....I've had it tuned, maybe I just need to fine tune it a bit more. I guess I just want a louder boat in general! Looks like the 485 is the way I'm headed. What are you rocking on your tower? By the way I see your a ford guy. Just bought a 09 F250 for pulling and I love it! I do have some questions about accessories for it....can I email you? Chris

Chris, yeah you can email me any time. I run 4 Bullet HP HLCD 770's powered by a Boston Acoustic GT-28 at 2 ohms so they see 225 watts each. I prefer them over the WS's because they (in my opinion) look better and have a lot more mid bass especially with the Q-tune on the amp. Don't get me wrong WS makes a fantastic product and matches it with even better service. I know what you mean wanting a louder boat. Mine can be painfully loud but I too have considered adding another set up top. Now if I could figure out how to do it without my wife noticing a third set. Gerald B, damn straight. My buddy joked the other day that we need those flying head set's so we can communicate with each other on the boat.

Just add a second syn 2 and power each set of pro 80's off a single syn 2. If you add a 485 you will need another amp regardless.

G, that's a good idea, idiot me was just wanting to spend more money I guess! I would assume adding another syn 2 would help feed the speakers the power they truly need. Gerald, I can't hear what you're saying....hows that for a bad joke? Hate, got an email coming your way. Thanks for all the input Chris

Here are the specs on that amp: SYN 2: Full Range 2 Channel Class H Amplifier Stereo @ 4 Ohms 200 x 2 watts RMS Stereo @ 2 Ohms 350 x 2 watts RMS Mono @ 4 Ohms 700 x 1 watts RMS You're currently running it at 2 ohm's so each speaker is seeing 175 watts versus 200 if you add another amp. If you add another amp at $549 you'll only pick up 25 watts per speaker which absolutely won't be worth it.

I would sell 1 set of the Pr080's and apply it toward a Pro485 and another Syn2. Run one set of Pro80's off the current syn2 @ 200W's rms ea and 700W's rms for the Pro485. Or keep the 2 pair of Pro80's on the Syn2 as they are now and add a Pro485 and a Syn2. You want loud, there ya go!
