my 02 xstar was running around 75 to 80 psi Not sure but I thought it was running at 50 psi the last few times I took it out. checked the oil seems ok. Is this a problem? 80 psi is max on this gauge

Have you just changed the engine oil? Otherwise remove the sender and plug-in a mechanical gauge to check that its accurate.

I had the opposite problem last year, oil pressure was low. Turned out to be the oil pressure sender. Easy fix.

Usually right next to or above the oil filter. It will probably have a single wire attached to a stud. It looks like this probably.

senders and guages are notoriously bad on those.

Thanks, I called mastercraft and they said that running at 75 80 is normal. this of course is when the boat is on the move half to full throttle, while just idle its 40 to 50. what do you guys think.

Cold maybe. what weight oil are you running??? Should be around 50-60 above idle. Get a real gauge and check it. 75-80 isnt excessive. When you get to around 150 the filter blows clean off.

my 02 X-star runs between 40-60. Had really irratic readings, usually low, until I changed my oil pressure seder. That picture Brett posted looks like my replacement. I think the original one looked like that but was black? Very easy to replace and cheap. I would order one and replace it and see what happens. Or like others say, get a real gauge on there and check it.

That oil pressure sender is notorious for having issues on the MC. Does your pressure gauge jump like crazy at idle? Mine started to last year.

It an easy replacement and a cheap fix. Had to replace mine.
