always see pictures of people riding the witness, watson, and, recently, the lyman, but very few people seem to ride the shane. any reason for this? too explosive? too loose? too wide? or am i just not looking hard enough

Man I love the watson... such a great board... Although I'm slowly turning into a fan of the Lyman.... I've seen more Marius's than any board. I've only seen like, 3 people riding Shanes... Shane not included.

Well Joe, you don't count, so hah. Mostly because I've never seen you "riding" that board, just a picture of said board. Your son counts cause I've seen pictures of him riding it, but you don't.

I love my shane. Came from the substance '04 and '05. I tried the '08 watson but still like the shane better.

I kinda agree with John but in a different way. I personally own two shanes and it's easily my favourite board. But when you think of all the liquid force pro team riders that dont have a pro model, very few of them ride the shane.

I have been riding the Shane for the last 4 years, love it. I was thinking about trying out the Lyman this year, but then they go and make a change to the Shane, decisions, decisions. Glad we can do demo's!

I have demoed the 07 and 06 Shane. The 07 is more more forgiving and much improved over the 06. I perosnally thought it was a little too fast, loose and not enough pop. I went with an 07 watson. Love it.

mikey, they are the same shape. wonder how much of the forgiveness is simply the graphic being more forgiving on the eyes lol

Could'nt be happier with my shane! Boots me way the hell up there. Took me a while to make the final decision on a new board last year because of all the hype of the ronix one and other boards but i finally just manned up and chose the shane. You'll be glad you did too, I bet the 09 shape is even better with the 142

I don't ride it because the biggest size they make it in is a 132.

No, they make it in way longer sizes. Up to 140(ish), I think.

Cant wait to see the 09. I rode the shane for 2 years but after riding the lyman last year I realized how much I HATED CUPPED FINS! Johan- From what Ive HEARD it will be similar to the old shape but more than likely doing away with the CUPPED FINS and probably some other minor changes and of course graphics. The shane board always had explosive pop. Even more so than the Lyman IMO. But, the fins made it track a little too well. The Lyman would release quicker off the wake for spins and other tricks. Hopefully the new shane will have the same pop, but will be a bit looser due to no cupped fins.

Oh and when I said the shane tracks too well (I know others feel different) I did not mean when your riding flat on the water. Because of the spine down the center of the shane, if you ride flat on the board it will feel loose due to the cupped fins riding high out of the water. But if you slightly get on edge the cupped fins hold and do not let go. Could be a benefit for someone who has trouble locking in there edge. So I would say that the 09 will be slightly quicker and looser than the 08 and hopefully with the same rocker. I just had to elaborate a bit more on my opinion (Message edited by knarbar on January 30, 2009) (Message edited by knarbar on January 30, 2009)

are you serious dave? the smaller cupped fins are the best thing ever introduced to wakeboarding! Loose when your not on edge and locks in with hardly any drag when you are. In hindsight though, I think your argument may hold a little more water, because LF doesn't have any boards using them anymore

I did say that when riding flat, the board is loose. But go do a butter slide on the wake with a shane and then do it on a lyman. You'll see what Im talking about and yes the shane is fast but that has more to do with the rocker and shape than so much the fins. I think boards without cupped fins help aid you in proper edging techniques. The cupped fins grab a little too much even though they are smaller compared to older LF Team boards.

The 09 shane will be off the hook if he just gets rid of those cupped fins.
