Anyone have one of their Marine receiver head units? Seem to be a little better value or are they just poor quality?

This is what I just switch to it is a night and day difference from a sony explode.
Look at ebay or sonic electronix and the bottom one can be found there or <6000> and also at walmart you can find them for 150-250

Chris is it a concern that the Pioneer is not a marine head unit?

It is not a big deal unless you are in salt water. alot of times they just coat the circut board and call it a marine head unit. This Head unit also has a wired remote that you can install on your transom. I have not had a problem and the person at my boat shop who does the stero install puts these in all the boats such as centurion,Nautique,montery etc. He builds usually 3-5 systems every 2 weaks and always uses this head unit. No complaints from any of his customers

Chris looks like a great product and I like the display on the wired remote. What about speakers? Car audio or marine?

You can find polk audio MOMO on ebay pretty cheap or you can go with kicker new tower speakers I will post some links. I like polk and have polk on my tower because there bullet proof you can run higher rms then recomended and they wont blow or distort. I have 4 momo on my tower and they are crystal clear at 75ft while riding
I am runing alpine pdx to them 150rms x4 at 4ohms.
Also when buying tower cans call them first to see if the momo will fit when you get into pro audio the size are really weird.

The Kenwood on my 03 SSV has been acting up...the HU turns on but won't take any commands from the face plate or transom controls. It's receiving power as the face plate is illuminated but it just doen't respond to button inputs. Any ideas?

Another thought related to what Chris has to say. If I replace the HU will my transom controls still work?

the easy way to tell if your head unit is working or broke is to take it out and hook it up to a battery then test the functions. It could just be in demo mode. <jhg> I hope this helps sometimes this stuff has a mind of its own. If you were to get a new head unit I would replace the transom remote with the same brand of head unit it's a simple process to do and then you will no that they are compatiable. Sorry not the best at spelling.

Thanks Tony & Chris. I guess I need to pull it one way or another. The HU would work off and on for awhile but now is completely uncooperative. Lots to take care of this coming off season...How can you tell if it's in demo mode or for that matter get it out of it, never heard of it.

Chris do you have the P600 or the P6000 and any trouble with getting a little water on the wired remote? Thanks!

I have the p6000 they are about the same except for the warranty and you can change the backgroung no prob with the remote.

What do you think? Also I read about the wired remote not being able to do all of the features on the P4000-P7000 heads. Something about the Sat radio.

they only have 3 band eq and the others 6000 and up have a 7band. All of them are great but I like having a 7 band eq.
