I know these are nowhere near the high end HLCD's but I just put a pair on my tower pushed by a kicker 550 3 channel amp. I could hear it fine at 70 feet and really loud when surfing. For someone on a budget they seem to work great.

I've been blown away by them... not much that can beat them that I'm aware of until you hit the $700+ systems.

Kicker didn't have a predecessor to the KMT6.. Sounds like you have the LoudLiquid Outlaws... they have 4 DX60's in them - Great setup for the money but very different to the KMT6... For those one an even smaller budget than the KMT6, the KM6000 offers another uber cheap option with fair results..

How much power are you guys running to your kmt6? I am running about 100-120 watt RMS. Anyone running 150+ RMS with good results?

I paid $189 as well from HookonTronics. That was back in January-February but lately they have been more expensive.

I have the KMT6 I ordered through my work. For the money, the beat anything thats out there IMO. I have the kicker 350.4 bridged to run 175w RMS to each speaker pod. Mid bass is great and at 75ft, the rider can hear really clear. At 175w RMS, theres not much distortion near max but getting a EQ will definitely clear up the signal. Recommended! I have it in my I/O Sea Ray.

I have a question...I have two of them on mine with a 350.4 kicker amp right now and love them! but I need to change the amp because I need the 350.4 for my truck, I have a 350.2 that I want to run them. I know it'll be less power but my question is how should I wire them to get the max power out of it? its rated at 175x2 at 2 ohms but I know these are 4 ohms speakers...its 350x1 at 4 ohms...can I wire them in a series or something?

RidinNSippi, For a better choice, you need to go with the Kicker zx450.2, or get another zx350.4 for the truck.

They have machined aluminum clamps with nylon inserts. They have multiple sizes, so there is a set of inserts for a 2 inch tower diameter.

mike, I understand that I would be better to get one of those, the problem is I already have a 350.2 so if you had to use a 350.2 how would you wire them?

Ridin, You have 2 speakers and a 2 channel amp, only one way to wire it correctly......on speaker pod per chnl, no parallel, no series wiring. They will get around 110w each, a little under powered, but will sound ok. Why do you need to 350.4 in the truck?

I have a few questions. I just bought these speakers today and I hope they get here by the weekend so I can try them out. I was running klipsch KHO-7 indoor outdoor speakers but I think I over drove them because after each trip they would sound worse and more grainy. I want to make sure I don't destroy these speakers so I need to make sure my amp is set up right. I have a rockford fosgate P400-4 amp to power them and a clarion cmd4 deck. It has 6ch/2V RCA Output with 2 channels for sub and 4 for speakers. Should I just run 2 channels to the amp or 4. Also I am guessing I would have the speakers wired to where one tower speaker is being powered by the rear channel with the + wire on lft and - on rt channel, and the other speaker powered by the front channel. And then after that how do I know where to set my gain and other adjustments. Also if I wanted to paint these white, would it turn out okay with spray paint or should I have them powder coated somewhere?

Has anyone bought covers for these yet, and if so how did they fit and where did you get them. Want to get a pair to help keep them clean. Also hoped i could leave them on all the time, not sure how that will affect the sound.

erling, The P400.4 will push them at 200W x 2 in bridge mode (make it a 2 chnl amp). The amp will run a little hotter/work a little harder, as these speakers ohm out closer to 3ohms, then using a 2 chnl amp, but you should be ok. Whether or not you need to run 1 or 2 sets of RCA's (front and rear chnl) to the amp will depend on if the amp has an internal pass through and how you want to configure the system. I use the Kicker amps because I can run both amp chnls with 1 set of cable and this allows me to config the system to fad from tower to cabin at the head unit. If the R/F will not pass through, use a set of splitters. Do a search for gain setting, lots of great info already posted

thanks voon. Ski Ray's seem to be sparce. When I was originally in the market I looked long and hard for info on them and came up short. They are built damn well though, but are def more of ski boat, but I had it loaded with around 1200lbs and the wake was really nice. Not amazing, but it had a really smooth ramp feel and was very easy to ride. Heres another pic of them hanging down.

I've got them running off a Phoenix Gold Tantrum 300.2. I'm sure at 3 ohms it is driving them at close to 150 watts each as the old Tantrum amps were typically very underrated. I got the amp used off ebay so I do not have the birth sheet. They sound very good no matter the cost. They are clear and have pretty good midbass as well. I paid $189 through Hookedontronics as well and am very pleased with the sound. Looks wise they are not head turners but they are not ugly either.

How loud are these compared to other HLCD speakers? I have only heard Wetsounds and a custom HLCD setup. Are these anywhere as loud as Wetsounds or NVS?

Nick, thanks for clearing that up. I was under the impression that these were some new, lower priced, HLCD style speakers. I have done 4 6.5" cans, 4 6x9's in a box, and now I am going to save up some $$$ and get WetSounds or something similar.

How much do the speakers weigh, per pod? Also, has anyone confirmed that the cartronix price is for two pods? Or what is currently the cheapest place to buy them? Thanks!

The shipping weight is 32 lbs. I ordered some last week after reading this thread and tried them out this weekend. All I can say is deafening. I could clearly here the music whale wakeboarding with the volume only turned half up. I am very happy with my purchase, I only wish they came in white. My ears are still ringing this morning. These things are awesome. I also love that they come with adapters so they will fit on just about any size tower.

el1070, I picked the wire loom up at a local electronics store and then put heat shrink tubing on the freyed ends where I cut it. Unfortunately they have since closed, but I have seen it before. I'm not sure of the actual name, but I would think you could look up wire loom and might come across it.

The name of the wrap on the wires is Techflex or Expandable sleeveing. It comes in different sizes and you can find lengths or rolls on eBay. I have it on my bundle of wires as well.

Brit, The KMT6 are not a HLCD. They are a horn loaded tweeter. From Kickers site. Dual 6.5-inch midrange drivers flanking a unique exponential-horn-loaded, titanium-dome tweeter RidinNsipin, A compression driver is a high frequency driver that uses compression. The magnet and diaphragm in a compession driver are usually very large. And the hole where the sound is released is small. Thus the theory of compression. They are more effcient than a typical tweeter. Which is why they are used in pro audio and now many pro audio based tower speakers. Hope that helps. Tim Wet Sounds

just for a reference, i had mine running off of a 350.4 and needed it for something else but i have a 350.2 that ive been using. i had them hooked up with just each one of them running off of its own channel. however, i just found my manual for them (couldnt find it for a while)...anyway. this is directly from the manual. /i{"Modern high performance speakers have a lower Working Independance than what used to be available. The Kicker KMT6 speakers are rated at four ohms and work with any source unit or amplifier designed to operate at a four ohm load. if you want to use two KMT6 speakers on each channel of you source unit or amplifier wire the speakers in a series. see figure 4. this will improve the sound quality, lower the total harmonic distortion and lessen the thermal load at the source unit or amplifier, as it will be a six ohm load. this may prevent an amplifier from shutting down due to over-current protection cicuitry."} I wired mine into a series, on the 350.2 today and you can definitely tell a difference as far as sq. they sound alot better and are actually louder and more clear when riding. anybody know how many watts that is running them? I am running them bridged in a series.
