Trey when is the last time you saw 0/2 guage wire for batteries? (Message edited by 05mobiuslsv on April 27, 2008)

Depends on amp (current) load and length of run. Bigger is always better. Grounding to either the original battery or the engine block is ok, which ever is shortest.

Mike I think you're right, I'll go back to my original statement and say CHAS show me an inboard wakeboard boat that comes with 2/0 wiring. Mine came with 2 AWG.

Jay it's 00 AWG this little discussion is about and way overkill for your situation.

Nu Bu and Chas my 2007 Supra Launch 21V has 2/0 AWG for the main power and ground from the factory. Jay I would run the same size wire out of the perko that is going into it, at least to the main battery. Probably would run 4 AWG to your stereo battery.

N Adams I really doubt that, do you have any idea how big that is? You sure you don't have 2 AWG?

When the wire clearly stats 2/0 AWG and not 2 AWG i am pretty sure. And yes i do know how big that wire is. Do you?

Are we still talking about wires here? To me anything over 4 AWG would be more than the job needs which isn't a bad thing if you like spending more than you have too. But heck with how cheap copper is these days why not go for the bigger run.

#2 awg for short runs (<8') to the starter. If you are running 10+ feet of cable to an amplifier distribution block you want to use 1/0 (aka 0) or 2/0 (aka 00) to minimize voltage drop.

Mike he's talking about the run from the alternator and ground from the engine block being 2/0 guage.

Ok that's it I have to go out to the boat and check what I've got again coming from the engine, no way Tige or Supra would do it and not Malibu . I know the wire between the dual batteries is 2awg. (Message edited by 05mobiuslsv on April 28, 2008)
