Hey Nick, I don't know jack but here's my C&C. #1 I like the SDF but there's to much dead space on the left. I think this shot would of worked better shot as a portrait VS's landscape. It's framed at a awkward place on her butt too. #2 Isn't bad but there's a little to much dead space on top for my liking. #3 I don't really care for it because it's dead centered and a ass shot. Keep the photo's coming and feel free top C&C my shots too.

So I have some others, but they seem to be big and I can't get them sized down enough. Although posted many times before, what is the best resizing program to use?

You can use paint but I can't remember how to do it. I know it's been covered before so if you look through the post here you most likely will find instructions on how to re-size in pain. If your going to be doing a lot of photography you should pick up Photoshop.

Yea Walt, you know nothing about pictures! haha Thanks for the comments, I notice everything you mentioned after I take a second look. Probably have some more to put up later today. Yours are great! I love the beach with the incoming waves and the lighthouse. The effects that you have on the lighthouse make it very mysterious.

Cool shot Nick. Do you have a raw file for it ?

Thanks Walt! No RAW file for it, just the JPEG. I should probably learn to use RAW files from everything I have read though. What would you do it with it if it were in RAW?

I would of made a suede HDR image out of it. I could of lightened up the dark area without blowing out the sky.

I see...that could have helped all of the pictures I took from there. We were right at the cloud level if not a little above which made all of the pictures blown out.

If you don't shoot raw, you could also just do two exposures, one for the sky and another for the foreground. Then, merge them in PS using layer masks. It's not as good as the HDR effect but will give you a similar result.

It's really a shame you don't have a raw file too. I try to shoot both large and raw at the same time. It chews up a lot of memory but you can save a shot like this if needed.

Hey look, the clouds are visible again! Thanks for cleaning that picture up Walt. I'm going to have to start shooting in RAW I think. I have yet to throw a second card in the camera, so I might as well start!

I have been shooting A LOT more video that photo in the past couple of months so I have unfortunately been unable to post anything lately. But I am taking the night to catch up on my way over due photo editing. Here is one so far. Probably will post a few more as the night goes on. Catchpenny p.s. Jed, the tones on your leaf photo are amazing. I love it! And you have a super cute kid. Those eyes are huge!!! (Message edited by wakesurf12 on February 19, 2008)

There we go! As far as ring flash goes it was a complete Alien Bee's setup. Two 1600's and an AB ringflash. Pretty good lights but I am not a big fan of the plastic build. But then again. They were borrowed and I cannot afford profoto stuff. HAHA!

Thanks, Ryan. I dig your band shot and the Joshua's self portrait with the frame. I understand that a lot of that effect is derived from the lighting but what PP (if any) did you guys do to finish them?

Jed, I used a series of highpass filters, blurs, and sharpening. most of it is fairly subtle untill the finished product. the thing is, if you don't have the right light to create the shadow and highlight contrast it wont do much for you, the image will just look flat. play around with the highpass filters under different color channels and opacities.

Nice job, those sure came out better then the ones I shot! By the time I got home and setup it was 15 minutes past 7 and the shadow had really lost it's color and darkened quite a bit. What lens/TC combo and what settings did you use?

For the longest time I was very anti cell phone camera. But then I got one of those darn iPhone dealy-bobs and I have grown to love its camera as the perfect documentary image capturing device. I think in the right conditions it provides a great photo that really has the look and feel of "I was there." Anyway, the other day I snapped this one between takes. I actually really like it. A lot.

Nice TTV shot, Ryan. Walt, I expect a herd of sheep came grazing across that hill right after you took the picture... It looks like the Scottish highlands or something.

After getting home from taking that shot I discovered that I didn't have my camera set on raw. I had taken a few bracketed series for a couple of HDR shots to work on over the weekend while it was raining. That's out now.
