i currently own a 06 malibu wakesetter VLX. I am looking into upgrading to the 08 malibu wakesetter LSV. Does anyone have any comments on the new boat. On my 06 i have the diamond hull, and the 08 has the wake hull. Any comments on the different hulls? Will i be happy with the redesigned 2008?

you actually have the option to have either the diamond or the wake hull on the 23. there's not a price difference and if you are going to use it for wakeboarding and skiing it's almost ideal to have the diamond hull. it works out because at wakeboarding speeds it doesn't cause the lift that it is designed for but when your at skiing speeds it does. so you still get a great wakeboard wake, as well as a great ski wake. the new switch panel is amazing and if you get the power wedge there are ten programable presets for rider preference. you can put your name in like perfect pass, and it will automatically adjust speed, fill the ballast tanks to your preference and set the wedge....pretty wild. it comes standard with the new illusion xs tower, but if you prefer the illusion x tower it is an option at no extra cost. I believe if you want a basic 23, it'll be more like 90k OTD.

number55- I would have to disagree with the diamond hull theory. The only way I would get a diamond hull is if I was skiing 75% of the time in which case I would probably be looking for a response or something else anyway that skies better than a v-drive will. I have ridden a few of the diamond hull VLX and LSV and they pretty much blow for wakeboarding. I would take an old direct drive 2001 or tristar 190 over them in a heartbeat. If you are planning to wakeboard and want a good wake you need to get the wake hull!

sbt3-you are wrong. I ride behind both all the time not a huge difference at wakeboarding speed. There is a little difference but unless you ride them side by side with its not as bad as people claim. I ride them both with about 1000 extra pounds and can throw everything the same.

I don't know what area you're in but here in texas you can buy an 08 lsv around 70k otd depending on options. malibu isn't over priced like some of the others[mc,naut...]

I'm going to ride behind the 08' this week. I'll post up the results. I own an 07'lsv i'm curious about the changes because the 08' hull has a deeper v and is 2" wider...

wakeitup- I'm certainly not wrong but whatever he wants to do with his money if fine and you have your opinion. Mine is that there is a big difference. I am not saying I can't do anything behind a diamond hull but they wake doesn't compare to a wake hull. If you're buying it to wakeboard I don't understand why people don't want the best wake possible. My buddy is trading he "fakesetter" lsv (diamond hull) for a wake hull this year because the wake is horrible for wakeboarding.

David, I think your sarcasm meter might be broken. Might want to get it checked out next time you are at the Dr.'s office. You would have to load the hell out of a 247 to be otd at 100k on a Bu' boat.

The dash is larger than previous models...but the seat sits higher as well so it offsets it to some degree. When I ordered the boat I was actually more concerned about the vented windshield than the dash and honestly, I don't even notice it. The field of vision is good when driving. They even moved the mirror this year which has been a huge improvement over my last LSV.

I'll try and get some pics of the wake this weekend if the weather holds up....it seems to be monsoon season in the Ozarks! Let me know if you want any specific pics of the boat and I will be happy to add those as well.

With the 08' Model can you sit in the set and still be cover by the wind shield? I'm not a huge fan of my face being in the wind, and we usually have bag for weight up front and not people to look over. Very nice looking boats I might add.

If that's a $95,000 boat, then our country really has gone down the drain.

Just my opinion, but not a fan of the xs tower at all. It seems too straight up. Liked the curve of the original illusion more.

A tower needs to: 1) pull the rope. 2) support many board racks. 3) support a big bimini. 4) support speakers. 5) look good. Its all about function first and looks second for me.

Looks wise, I prefer the rear swooping towers but its not the deciding factor for me. How does the BU tower do on 1 to 4 (above) compared to the MC or CC towers? I dig big ass biminis (because its hot on the boat all day long on the delta) and I think BU has been pretty poor here.

Depends on the Bimini maker for the BU' towers. We've been using the Towerbiminis.com setups. They have the most coverage by far. Illusion X and XS: 1) pulls a rope 2) will hold 8 boards 3) can support up to 8' bimini 4) i've seen all kinds of speaker set ups. 5) this one is in the eye of the beholder, is it not?

GD I disagree the BU biminis are much larger or atleast can be than a traditional swoop tower bimini. Ours has plenty of coverage and worked wonders at Shasta this summer. Kdubz- Pretty much got it right... our bimini on our Malibu is much larger than the bimini on our last boat Centurion with the classic swoop tower.

I have not seen the latest bimini offerings. I asked David to post one on the new wakeworld boat thread. The integrated bimini's that I saw in the past were really small -- not covering the driver (me). Does the BU tower handle spinning racks as well as the non BU towers? Are the speakers lower and more in the way? Yes, #5 is subjective and not my focus. I could live with that issue if everything else was good. Oh, one other thing is foldability? How does that compare?

Yes, there are several types of spinning racks for both towers. Depends on the speaker, and where they are mounted. The XS tower is taller, so not as much of an issue as it was on the X. Both fold down very easy. They are both tension loaded as well. Pull a pin on each side and they fold down forward. The XS "hoop" where the rope attatchment is removes, so the tower sits no higher than the windshield.

GD- spinning racks?? Are you talking about swivel racks? IF so then yes they handle as well if not better than any others on other towers. Titan made one helluva swivel rack. The speakers are really never an issue for me but I'm only 5'10". The only way I could hit em with my head is if I'm say digging around under the observers seatand stand up leaning towards the outside of the boat. They're really pretty tucked and to the side, even with the 4 6.5's in the big titan cans. Foldability is a toss up I don't see a big time difference from our old swoop having to unscrew the bolts on the bottom or simply pulling the pins on the Illusion X. So like I said foldability is a toss up either way. I wouldn't say the Illusion X is better than any other tower out there, but I've never even seen ours sway a mm, even with 4 wakeboards, 3 surfers, 4 6.5's, tower mirror, and bimini. It's super solid. It does everything as good as any other tower, so it's really whether people like the look or not. That said I'm not a big fan of the looks of the new Illusion on the 23 and 247.
