Yes, it is possible. The last time I pulled a prop it just slid right off while I was trying to assemble the prop puller...... On the other hand, they can be a real bitch! If you need to get your prop off now then I would give it a shot, you have nothing to lose. Loosen the nut up, yank on the prop. Tap the back side of the hub with a hammer. If it comes off, great. If it doesn't, don't beat up your prop and/or shaft on what could be a futile attempt, go get a puller. If you are just considering the future and want to be prepared then I would say get a puller! It would be really frustrating to be out at some distant lake with a spare prop that you need but can't use because you can't get your old prop off!
