Is it possible to get the prop off of a 2003 SAN without a prop puller tool? Or should I just invest in one to have just in case?

the ghetto way is to put a board behind it and hit the board with a hammer. Loosen the nut but keep it on so it does not fly off...

Disclaimer : This only works if the boat is on the trailer

Have you tried taking it off yet? Sometimes a puller isn't needed. Mine just fell right off when I loosened the nut.

I bought a Craftsman 2 arm gear puller. I think it was a fraction of what they charge for a prop puller.

Yes, it is possible. The last time I pulled a prop it just slid right off while I was trying to assemble the prop puller......

On the other hand, they can be a real bitch!

If you need to get your prop off now then I would give it a shot, you have nothing to lose. Loosen the nut up, yank on the prop. Tap the back side of the hub with a hammer. If it comes off, great. If it doesn't, don't beat up your prop and/or shaft on what could be a futile attempt, go get a puller.

If you are just considering the future and want to be prepared then I would say get a puller! It would be really frustrating to be out at some distant lake with a spare prop that you need but can't use because you can't get your old prop off!
