After seeing Luke Duke’s alternator bracket I had to get one for myself. This simple little hyme joint and treaded rod makes for a great easy way to get proper belt tension.

Thanks for the Idea Luke.
P.S you want my old one

I am glad that my idea has helped someone. Us girly men that can't adjust brackets right needed this extra help!

I have a 1989 SN2001, it looks like it would work. The bar just looks like crap.

GRANT- Can you confirm this is what you ordered? These are the parts I put together from mcmastercarr on PN, but want to make sure you didnt realize something was wrong.

Alrighty folks, here is a parts list from Mcmastercarrs website.
(You only need to order the threaded shaft from them, I got the heim joints and the jam nuts in both rt and lft thread from my local Orchard for about $12 compared to the $14 each listed below)

Part Number Description Unit Price

4483T401
Ultra-Strength Ball Joint Rod End 3/8"-24 Rh Male Shank, 9544 Pound Load Capacity
$14.38 Each

4483T402
Ultra-Strength Ball Joint Rod End 3/8"-24 Lh Male Shank, 9544 Pound Load Capacity
$14.38 Each

8419K63
Easy-Adjust Threaded Connecting Rod 6" Overall Length, 3/8"-24 Threaded Female Ends
$13.46 Each

Merchandise Total $42.22

Just remember, one side need to be left hand thread and the other needs to be right hand thread in order for it to adjust.

here are some additional pics-

If the shaft was about 1-2 inches longer, you wont be on the ends of the heim joints when adjusting it.

I am gonna see if my bro can make a longer one for me since he is a machinist. They have all kinds of thread taps and such.

Thanks for the site address. That's an awesome site, spend hours looking at stuff. I guess I should get back to work now.

Luke: I order the same threaded rod as you. The 6-inch. If I had a smaller case alternator the 6 inch threaded rod would work perfect. My alternator's case is a bit larger than your HO alternator and therefore the distance between the mounts is closer so I needed to re-order a smaller 4-inch threaded rod. You can see from the pics that the joints are almost all the way out. A 5-inch rod would have worked out best but they don’t make that length.

Jan, thats where I got all my parts except the shaft. The heim's are cheaper at OSH but only by a couple bucks.
