Everyone Jen has been out with me several times this summer and went from barley getting up to crossing the wake several times today...she is very stoked and a super cool chick, so give her some encouragement and some tips cause you all know I suck

Jen,

If you're riding behind Daniel's yellow V23 then my advice would be to continue to tell him how great he is ;-) !

Dan, sweet boat. Its OK to be a poser, the industry loves us and we're having a great time doing it.

Your biggest hurdle to overcome is letting Dan show you anything. Whether it be how to wakeboard or other things...
But just keep telling Dan how great he is and he will keep inviting you out on the boat. Second is line tension, Dan likes to flatten out at the wake, I know he says he is getting better, but if you just hold your edge and keep tension on the rope, it will pop you accross the wake. You might not want to get too much better than him or the invites might stop coming.

Jen, get yourself a copy of HigherEducation or another good educational video.

Progressive Edge - gradually less to more.
Body Position - knees over toes, shoulders over hips.
Load the Line - maximize load as you crest wake.
Handle at Hip - rope in tight helps you control the air.
Stand Tall - brings it all together for flight.
POP

Hey Ian,
Thanks for that advice.
Dan is already not allowing some people on the boat because they were better than him. LOL

Jen i just went w2w this past weekend for the first time and the biggest change i made was edging all the way through the wake and not letting up too much when you get close to it. Of course, you will have to let up some but still have to keep edging... Good Luck :-)

Now for some real advice....Shorten the rope until you can jump over the wake, and work on your technique. When you are feeling comfortable and landing well, let the rope out in 5' increments. Good luck!!

Thanks Byrd for the advice I will keep you posted on my progress!

Byrd's advice is a good one.

Shorten the rope so the wake is easier to cross at first.

Another option is to make the rope longer so you have more space between wakes. With this, you can more easily practice one-wake jumps.

Just remember that its not about speed; its about loading the line.

GD, I've heard that so many times and it makes sense in theory, but when I'm behind the boat and I have the board on edge and a lean against the line to load it the board goes faster every time. The only way that loading the line doesn't create speed is if I put the board perpendicular to the direction of travel. So what am I missing here? This has always been confusing to me.

when you edge hard and load the line into the wake your board should be almost perpendicular to the wake, and were not saying it doesnt create speed, because it does, but the amount of speed you have will depend on how far you cut out...

so if you cut out about 10 ft and load the line then you shouldnt have as much speed as you would if you had cut out 20 ft..... kinda makes sense haha

I thought that's what the Red Bull was for. Beer and the Indo Board is entertaining. I can't see myself drinking and riding, but hey, maybe

My favorite is a icy cold diet rockstar. It is the best...

I'm with J-Rod on that one, Jen. One Coors Light seems to just take the edge off and not be too tense/nervous/or whatever out there. I've landed my best jumps that way. (But one good face plant sobers you right up!)

Otherwise the shorter rope and edging/standing tall at the wake helped me quite a bit.

Jen,

Did The Poser (Dan) mention crying? There's no crying in wakeboarding...

Ok Ron, I can see where the coors light to take the edge off could possibly work. LOL

JHG,
Yes Dan did mention no crying when you face plant, he said he is the only one allowed to cry!

My 11 year old might cry if: 1) We make him come in because he's been riding for 45 minutes and there are 8 other people waiting to go. 2) The water is rough and he can't do what he wants to do during the session. 3) The lake is crowded and the other boats are power turning all over the run. 4) His brother lands a new trick. 5) I don't pay enough attention to his driving instructions. He's very passionate about the sport.
