I was ready to buy another Malibu (Wakesetter VLX), but bought a 22SI instead and love it. I have some very minor design issues (board racks are hard to operate with bimini folded out, finish of engine area, firm seat padding). First rate fit and finish everywhere else, great wake, and very solid boat. Weighted down with 1500LBS, as nice of wake as anything I've boarded behind (San, Bu VLX, MC 205V and X2, Sanger 210 and 215, Calabria Pro V, B52, and others). It compares nicely to all. Not gonna say nicer than any one boat, but compares to most. Seems to drive the same weighted or unweighted. Very solid in rough water, and no porpusing or cavitation, even when weighted.
Make sure you get a screaming deal. Dealers still have 04s, so they can move on the price. I paid under dealer cost and I'm nearly fully loaded with a very high end trailer. I wouldn't get anything other than the 6.2 EFI. They are a heavy boat, and I think the 5.7 would work a little hard when loaded down. Seems like mine uses every bit of the 6.2. Feel free to email me for any info. I've done a lot of research before buying and might be able to help you out with any questions.

Didn't Regal do the design and molds?

They built the boats. Mine came with manuals refer to it as a Regal. When I bought mine two months ago, I bought it thru Regal.
