Is there anybody that could give me the sales numbers for the top five inboard boat companies. I'm not even sure what the top five companies are. I'm guessing that MC, Malibu, CC, Supra, and Tige? maybe.

Thats what I meant if you add Moomba and Supra numbers together (skiers choice) then you get more sales than CC

Matt, drinkin that BU collaide? BU may have made more boats than MC by 100-200 units. But TOTAL sales by dollar amount MC smokes em all. Sales figures are usually equated to DOLLARS. Not just units produced. The company that has invested in MC looked at Bu originally...could not figure out where BU was making any money.

TK.. where could you even come up with that crap... "MC smokes them all"??? "Cant figure out where Malibu is making money"?? I think i just threw up..

Who doesn't use units produced to get sales figures? MC charges more for boats, but how many more boats do they give away a year? This adds up pretty quick as well. Last I heard, the gap was over 200 units.

Billy, everyone knows Nautique is the best, just ask Red Sovine!

TK,

Actually, in the Marine marketing world, dollar volume is secondary to Market Share, which is tracked by REGISTERED units, not by what was built and still sitting in dealer inventory.

Market Share is Priority One for all these builders.

everyone is right....there are many different ways to measure market share, and top sales, and # units sold ,and units produced, etc.

Last year the trade magazine had it this way.
Malibu
Mastercraft
Correct Craft
Ski Centuion
Moomba

There were only a few boats difference between Centurion and Moomba. The figures for 06 usually come out in Dec. or Jan.

Heres a question. How many of the boats produced are not even sold yet and still sitting on the lots? I think market share should be boats that have actually been sold or registered to a consumer. Yes Malibu and MC make a ton of boats, but shouldnt success be measured on units SOLD not produced. What if MC made 10000 boats a year and only sold 150 of them? Should they be #1?

Billy,

It balances out.

If MC made 10000 boats and only sold 150, then their dealers would not take next years stock until they unloaded the last 9850 boats. Thus, MC would go out of business.

Well then who sold the most (registered units)in 2005? Is that a figure anyone knows. Autos are counted by sold registered units during the year, not how many they build.

First, since at least some these companies are private there is no way anyone can know the sales figures except the company themselves. Boat registration is handled by several different entities in different states; therefore you would have to spend an enormous amount of time to collect that data, which I doubt you could even get. Trade magazines are just that trade magazines and have no way of actually knowing the truth, the report what they were reported. Hell we can’t even get an MSRP for most of the boats since it varies by region. Second, who really cares? Buy the boat you want to buy, or use what your buddy has and go wakeboard for Christ’s sake!

A boat is just a hole in the water into which one pours money...

Many boatbuilders/retailers give a lot of creedence to these folks:

They track "registered" units on a state-to-state basis I believe.

All the #'s I've seen are boats SOLD and Registered, And with that Malibu is top dog, MC #2 and Skiers Choice #3
