Is there a big difference in the performance between these two engines in this boat? Is one more desirable than the other? I know more HP doesn't always mean "better". What can you tell me about these motors.

the 310 actually has more torque. I have hte 310 in my 2000 xstar and I weigh my boat down with ~3000 lbs + gear. the boat planes with the stock prop, and jump out of the hole with my acme prop

Completely agree with dj.....my 02 XStar had the 310hp motor and never had any problems getting out of the hole with a 14x18 prop (2250# of weight).

I like the LTR better. Its a work horse, and doesn't seem to eat as much gas as my old MC with the 310 in it. It jumps out of the hole with the stock prop.

I guess more specifically, is there any negative to having the 330HP LTR. I'm not specifically looking for a boat with this motor, but I have found one I kind of like with this motor. The seller talks the motor up like it's a big upgrade.

My opinion: I think people will equate more HP with better performance, so the resale could be better with the higher HP motor. I have had the 310 in our former '02 X10 and our current '04 205V. In both, the motors have performed flawlessy. I have re-propped (OJ XMP EDGE) our 205V to better handle the ballast for wakeboarding and wakesurfing. What a world of difference. After having this motor in 2 different rides I would not hesitate to run it again. (Message edited by P-hat in Cincy on September 20, 2006)

Hey Paul, what was your rpm increase at boarding speed with ballast on the 205 from stock to the edge prop, do you know? And how much weight do you run? Oh, and we have the 310 in our 03 X2 and no complaints so far, 450 hours. Was also told by our dealer that the 310 had more torque than the 330, but I think Indmar keeps their curves under wraps, no?

Same engine with tweaks to give it more peak HP. Torque is what "gets it up" and the torque will be very similar since the basic architecture of these engines is identical. I have the MCX 350HP and prefer it due to bling and resale. It's a better engine for waterskiing than the 310 HP engine.

Bob T, I recognize your email in your profile. You contacted me about my 2000 x-star in the classifieds section. I just posted some more pics and I am willing to help out with travel distance. Let me know what you think.

Make sure the LTR has the revised oil pump gear. It was made of something extremely soft apparently and just shredded itself on ours causing a complete loss of oil pressure. I believe MC had a TSB out on it a few years back. Matt

I have a 99 X Star with the LTR in it and a buddy had a 01 X with the 310. Both completely stock down to the prop. You could notice the power difference. Especially when you would get the boat loaded with ballast and people. I would not have noticed the difference if I wouldn't have rode in both of them in different situations including loaded. The 310 will do everything you want I am sure. But the LTR will plane faster with the same load. After having an LTR, I would not own a 310. Just my opinion!!

Hey Paul, how did that prop work out for you after having it re cupped?? Any noticeable difference in the rpm and speed? Thanks.

The 310hp is throttle body injected while the LTR 330hp is multi-port injected...meaning the 330 is supposed to have better efficiency along with better power. I have an 02 star with the 330 and my buddy has the same with the 310 and I really notice very little difference in efficiency and power. Neither boat/motor has had any problem except for the fact that I paid a couple grand more!

Michele, Per my PM back at you...it dropped the RPM about 200 to 3200-3300RPM (with ballast and ~23.5mph) with no noticeable difference in hole-shot performance. P
