I would imagine the mirror obstructs his view, and if he mounts it any higher he looks at his bimini top, so he mounts it out side so he can at least get a glemps(sp?) of the rider.

I don't get the bow seating area. why have a folding windshield? Do you just jump in?
Haven't looked at these, so maybe they're all that way.

yes the window swings open, and you have to crawl over the dash into the front.

I believe that the response and sportster LXs are "playpen" style. The Echelon LX and of course the Sunsetter are true open bows
