Allright So Im putting a headunit in today. No amps at the moment just the HU and speakers. Since my battery is in the back and I need a long power and ground run what gauge wire should I use? Also that type of inline fuse

Thanks

What size fuse is in your head unit?

I'd install a 10 amp inline fuse, and a 14 AWG wire. If you find that the price difference between 14 and 12 is insignificant, then go with 12.

With 14 AWG, on 15 feet at a full 10 amp draw, you'd see a .77 volt drop at the head unit. Probably more than you'd want, but I doubt your deck will draw anything near 10 amps.

Thanks

I just finished cutting all my holes and mounted the speakers and HU. Took some guts to start drilling. All went well and no Gel Coat Cracks.

Just to make sure I only fuse the ACC hot wire. Not the constant. or should I do both?

Just fuse the Positive (RED, ACC, Hot) wire.

The Ground (constant) wire doesn't need a fuse.

I should rephrase that

I know not the ground. But in essence there are two hot wire the ACC and Constant (Memory etc.) I believe its red and yellow. Do I need a fuse on each of those?

Thanks for your help

no, the memory does not need a fuse -- 12 will be ok for just the HU -- but if and when you go w/ an amp -- go w/ 6 or 8ga wire...

all you have to do is wire it to the fuse block right under the consaul, no need to run your power and ground direct of the battery.
