ok here is the deal, my brother and i are trying to convince my dad to get a new prop for our boat this season. we have a '99 malibu wakesetter DD with the inmar 310HP and a stock prop. we are going to run the wedge, 1(maybe 2) 500lb fat sacs and about 200-300lbs of weight under the bow and we usually only have 3-4 people in the boat. so i have done a little research and i think the acme 3 blade model-653 would be a good prop to go with. would you say this is a good choice? i would also like to know how to contact ACME props (either email or phone #) because my dad wants to see/know the advantages of a lower pitched prop (he doesnt want to lose much top end either) so any help or other recommendations for a prop would be great but please give good detailed reasons why prop A is better than prop B. thanks alot for any of the help!!

If you want to keep your top end, you might want to go with the 525 instead of the 653.

Here is a chart that will help:

$310 for the Acme 3-blade. The 525 or the 515 would be my recommendation.

ok, how much differnce would the hole shot be between the 525 and the 653? also how much top end would we lose with both?

I run the 525 on my 97 Sunsetter DD with the 320hp monsoon. It made a huge difference. The hole shot is pretty good even when I weight my boat a lot. The biggest improvement was in the quality of the wake overall. It's clean and non-foamy at 21 to 24 mph on both sides of the wake. I would highly recommend.

I lost about 1 mph going from the stainless 3 blade to the acme 525. The benefits far outweigh the loss of top end.

I would only use the 653 if you get up near 2,000 lbs of ballast. The 525 should work with the ballast system that you described. The 653 would definitely improve hole shot but you will increase your RPM, decrease your gas mileage, and decrease your top speed.

I used to run about 1300 lbs of ballast plus the wedge. However, at the end of the season last year I added another 500 lbs or so. So I'm up around 1800lbs now plus the wedge and I could definitely feel the the difference when coming out of the hole. More sluggish I mean.

You can always call the guys over at acme and they will help you decide.

I had a 2001 DD with 1000lbs lead, mls, wedge, 500lb sac accross the back, 3-4 guys. I had an acme 13x13 4 blade. Loved it---trust me!!! The wake was great---and plenty of power.

check out acme props.com i think? i talked to acme directly. told them what boat, altitude, weight etc. smaller pitch and diameter will give you better hole shot better speed control while cornering, smoother running. will drastically reduce top speed. you can't have both.

Greg, while not on the strict subject of props. You can more easily convince your dad buy buying the prop yourselves. :-)

It's easy enough to switch out props, so you'll have one and your dad will have one. I'm guesssing he likes to ski and maybe even barefoot.

matt- i was thinking of doing that but i just bought some 05 transits so i have no money but i might be able to buy one when it gets closer to summer. my dad doesnt barefoot but he does ski and he is the only one that still skis. we tried to get him to wakeboard and he did it a couple times then gave up because "he is too old to start a new sport"
