has anyone done this on there own with the kit and bottle. if anyone could explain how. i have access to flush kit but was wondering if you just tee into fuel line. i do know a guy that says if he can get up to lake in next two weeks he knows how to take throttle body apart and clean, but who knows when he will get up there.

Use Chrvron Techron Engine Cleaner for a couple of tankfulls. It works very well and may be able to clean out some of the fuel passages in the throttle body. It will not affect the air passages, but may get you to the end of the season before a TB tear down.

Usually on those cheap kits you disable the fuel pump, then pinch off the return and pressure line. The cleaner attaches to the pressure port or the pressure line. Then you start the engine and run it until you are out of cleaning solution.

What is the problem with the boat?

Most fuel injection services are performed to clean out the injectors and carbon off the valves and pistons. That type of service will not clean the injector screen though. You also run the risk of dislodging debris from the rail or screen and having it get stuck in the injector pintle. As for add in tank cleaners...well you are asking for lots of stuff to be broken down and sent towards the fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors, etc...

As for cleaning the throttle body, you can use carb or parts cleaner and just clean it using a tooth brush or the like. Make sure not to get the cleaner into the TPS. Personally I would never take my throttle body apart.

the boat is a dog out of hole and is no good under load. it still spins up to 4800rpm when not loaded. put 1000lbs of ballast and it will not pull me up. the old fuel filter was almost plug solid.(probably never changed. new plugs. after 2 hours use new plugs are white indicating lean mixture or maybe timing.

I don't think your plugs should be brown after two hours of use.

There may be a second fuel filter. See if you can find it. I would also change your prop or take it to a shop where they can determine if it is out of shape.

Allan, carefully remove the return fuel line and put it into a container that will hold a couple of quarts of gas. Have someone start the boat and time how long it takes to get one quart of fuel. It should be in less than thirty seconds. If it takes over thirty seconds suspect a bad fuel pump. The other (better) way to test is with a low amp probe and a lab scope, but few know how. Often a plugged fuel filter causes the fuel pump enough back pressure to damage it.

As said before when this problem is fixed look at getting a better prop too.
