We just bought a new boat, its a 22 foot sea ray with a tower and board racks, my question is can I install perfect pass on this boat and if so is it something I can do myself or should I have our marina do it? Also, Anyone have any experience with a sea ray? What do you think of the wake?

I used to have SeaRay 175br. It had a decent wake for an i/o. I'm sure you can install Perfect Pass. It doesn't look that hard. It will help.

Call perfect pass, they will help you out.

Many people here have installed PP on i/o's. Sea Ray, bayliner, crowline...boat manuf doesn't really matter, engine manuf does.

depends how handy you are with tools, how much experience do you have with a drill since youll be putting a rather large hole in the bottom of your new sea ray, only you can decide if you are up to the task, if you dont feel confident then leave it to a marine mechanic but anyone who can use a screwdriver and drill should be able to install it in a few hours at the most

Bobby is right. It depends on your engine manufacturer. Call perfect pass and a tech there will be honest about it. They told me it doesn't work well with my 4.3 liter Mercruiser so they talked me out of it. My engine is not fuel injected.

Check out www.perfectpass.com for installation instructions with pictures. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, the biggest problem you will have is drilling that hole in the bottom of your boat. Good luck.

My engine is a 1999 4.3 Mercruiser non-EFI. PP works great. Cost $575.00 from Elberts.com. Took less than 3 hours, and most of that was rereading the instructions. I just couldn't believe it could be so simple.

The only hard part was the mental anguish of pulling the trigger on the drill to bore a large hole in the bottom of my boat. I checked many times to make sure it was exactly where it needed to be. (Where I could reach it from inside the boat, and out of the way of the trailer bunks).

I could install one now in about an hour. I would like to charge about $500.00 each to install them.

PS

I installed mine just in front of the motor. I can reach it from the inside. This is important because I use the travel plug when driving and install the paddle-wheel plug when I get to the lake. It has to be fairly easy to reach. Because I always forget to put it in till we get out on the water. Then pulling the travel plug and installing the paddlewheel in the torent of water rushing through the open hole is interesting.

Mike,

I installed pp on a 1994 merc 4.3, carb. It worked fine. Maybe it acted up once it a while, but I think it was still worth the money to install.

Potter, instead of using the travel plug, you could just use a bit of masking tape to keep the paddle from moving. Put a piece of tape on the bilge drain as well to remind you that you have tape on the wheel.

Here is a story of perfect pass being installed on an i/o:

The hardest part for me was finding a good place for the paddle wheel that wouln't get hit by the I/o extra set of bunks on the trailer.
