the thing about gel restoration is you want it to look even but not go through the color, so really you could use the same 1500 grit but just spend a little more time in the worst spots. I did my whole boat and it came out great, but a few years later and i have some oxidation creeping back, even with always wiping down and waxing my boat. Its pretty easy to touch up the spots that came back. The bottom of your boat is rough, i don't think sand paper is removing those completely, maybe just reduce the look of them. I'd do 1000 with a spray bottle of water to keep it lubricated and pay close attention- go for an improvement not a 100% fix there. The rest of your boat would be fine with a quick hit of 1500 then follow G's steps imo. Hopefully he'll chime in- hes got a good grasp on a lot of things, and doesn't cut a corner
