anyone using these new wakesurf shapers? I have an 09 Malibu Vride. just curious if any of these wedge things actually work. Tired of adjusting so much ballest between wake and surf sessions. Adding a surf gate is just too expensive.

I have used the kids bicycle ramp version with great results. But am leaning towards making the one I just saw listed in the post about the mission surfer piece.
Honestly, I am shocked at how badly they are trying to gouge the pricing on some of the pieces.

The surf devices work great. The misconception by some is that you don't need weight. Still need a a lot of ballast but they totally made the wave longer and better on our Malibu than listing it.

from another forum.......
"580mm X 250mm wedge, 30deg is the key.... So work out the room you have then measure 250mm out and 30 deg will give you base measurement"

I have been in the same situation with the moomba boats that we have messed wit so much ballast but after adding the ronix 8.3 wake shaper, the wave we were riding was better than ever before. As well as very easy to switch sides for different riders in less than 30 seconds. Performed better than we expected. This is what the wave we were riding looked like.

Perfect for all levels of riding.

A friend made me a wake shaper identical to the Ronix, I will never list my boat again, it really works that well.

I made one that has a 10"x13" paddle at 45 degrees, attached with suction cups (Harbor Freight). Works excellent. My findings are that the wake is much larger using it instead of listing because you can totally fill both rear sacs .

I have a the mission delta and I'm very impressed. Outstanding quality and amazing results. Their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/Missionboatgear/, has videos with all types of boats. I haven't seen heard a negative comment yet.

Thats pretty big. I did a 9x6 then rounded one end (cutting out about 15ish%) but its at 80 or so degrees. Works wonders. Seriously.

I agree, these things work wonders, especially for how simple and cheap they are.

My friend and I have put these on both of our Tige's an 08 RZ2 (2000lbs) and 07 22Ve (1000lbs) . A friend of ours with a 15 Malibu said his boat will not make as good as surf wake as ours. I have not been on his boat, but if I had spent over a $100K on a boat it better be able to surf as good as two boats that were less than 1/2 the cost. They are a complete game changer when you talk about updating your old boat versus the thousands you would spend on a newer boat with virtually the same result. I would really like to see what it does on some of the older boats.

Since there are no pics of the Amazon Sucgate, I'll post a pic of mine I built last night. I'll try to follow up with some wake pics. It's going on a '00 Tige 22i.

Fence, does yours sit at that angle when surfing? I have a decal that interferes with mine but a tilt might help

^^^ I don't know yet. I haven't had it on the water. I was just messing around with it. I plan to test it like that though. Everything is on 20 degree angles as shown. The side of the hull is 20 degrees. The cutting board is at 20 degrees as well so why not throw a 20 degree tilt at it as well? We'll see. I already great a damn nice listed wake but, I need everyone to sit on the surf side and I'm sick of having my crew all pack onto one side of an old D-drive. That's really my only motivation for trying this.

A buddy's SAN 210 factory ballast on port side plus 350 bag in locker. Homemade suck gate. Not bad.

Fence Sense or anyone else--what is the size of that "cutting board". Or what is the size of the one on the delta.

Everything I've read says the bigger the board the more of an angle it needs. The one I made is close to 90 degrees, but I wasn't worried about being exact.

Tested it yesterday on a buddy's Tige 21v. I'm hugely impressed. So impressed that I think the Mission Delta might even be worth the price. I hate to use the term game changer but god damn, game changer. We did everything wrong with it and it still performed exceptional. Its basically infallible. We ran it with 400lbs on the off side and 0lbs on the surf side (no, that's not a typo) and it still produced a great wave. It pretty wild.
400lbs port locker, 0lbs starboard locker, 3 adults, 4 small children, 11mph, one wounded suckgate mounted way far forward from ideal.

This is our findings also, but we didn't do with the ballast being on the wrong side. We found that people can sit wherever they want to now, even on the wrong side of the boat and the wake is still good.

The angled sections of the shelf brackets fell out. They were not welded in, rather just a friction fit. I believe they fell out when we reversed to get the rope to the rider who missed it. The pressure must have been enough to expand the brackets enough to let the supports just fall out. We ran it without those and it didn't seem to make any difference in the wake but I believe it made more spray off of it by allowing water between it and the hull. I'd rather have them in there.

In the wakeboarding forum there's another similar thread, copy the design with the turnbuckle and you can have a great degree of adjustability.

$8 for Harbor Freight Suction Handle
$2 in Stainless Steel screws and hardware
Some leftover HDPE plastic I had laying around.
Original Design:
Modified to have a little more surface area.
It's not a complete game changer, but for $10 and an evening of time, it makes the surf wave way better than without it.
